Sam was more than we could have imagined!!! He played a big part in making our ceremony PERFECT!!!
Sam was such a great addition to our micro wedding in Asheville. He was very responsive and took the time to get to know my fiancee and I. He ensured we were 100% ready for day of and was so kind and welcoming to all of our guests. He took the time to learn some new songs we had requested and they came out absolutely beautiful. We would recommend him over and over again!!
Sam is professional, punctual, and flexible - three traits that are so helpful for a wedding event!! He was great to work with, very communicative, and did all his own set up and break down. We were able to enjoy the day without worrying about anything at all.
Sam was an absolute delight to have at our wedding! We received so many compliments on his professional mannerisms and beautiful music! Leading up to the wedding, Sam was super responsive to my emails and requests and I cannot thank him enough for making our day even more special than it already was.
Sam played at our wedding this weekend, and it was beautiful. He made the ceremony more intimate and personal for us. His set list was perfect, and made our day feel even more special than it already was. I would recommend a live guitarist over playing prerecorded music any day.
Couldn’t ask for anything better! Sam was so professional and helpful with planning the music for my son’s wedding! Beautifully done, Sam. Thank you!!!
Sam was a wonderful addition to our wedding! We had a small semi-outdoor ceremony of less than 30 people. He filled our ceremony and cocktail hour with lovely music. He created the best vibe for our venue. I found him less than month before our wedding and he worked with us and all my questions and concerns. Sam is so lovely and great addition to help build our dream wedding day!
Sam was absolutely wonderful! He played exactly what we wanted, and lightened the mood! It was wonderful for my wedding and it was truly the touch that everyone enjoyed! He was always so quick to respond, and I never had any issues with communication! I would highly recommend Sam to anyone! Thank you Sam, for exceeding my expectations.
My husband and I first met Sam when we were looking for a classical guitarist to play at our intimate wedding ceremony. We had a thirty minute chat over the phone with Sam, and knew that we were in fantastic hands! He had great perspective and helped us fill in the blanks where we did not know what kind of music we wanted. We asked him to learn a few new songs for us, and he learned/played them expertly! On our wedding day, Sam was an absolute professional, showing up on time and handling setup with ease. The music was beautiful and we could not have asked for a better player. If you are looking for a classical guitarist who has an extensive repertoire but also can pick up a couple new songs, Sam is absolutely your guy!
We used Sam for our aisle music and for a cocktail hour. He went above and beyond anything we could have asked for and was so amazing. We got tons of compliments, especially for the down the aisle music, and I will be recommending him for all my friends.
Disclaimer that I never actually booked Sam for my event due to a last-minute fill in HOWEVER, he is a very kind and talented guitarist who spent a lot of time and energy communicating with me and providing me with excerpts of his work. He also sent over some voice demos since he is dabbling in that field as well. Thanks so much Sam!
Sam was great! He was very responsive when it came to communicating about the event. He came up with a fun set of songs that kept the party going!
Sam is a very talented guitarist. He played on the porch of my bed & breakfast and it was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was also early, started on time and played to the last minute. He is easy to work with and just a very nice person.

Dynamic String Duets
Sam frequently collaborates with Linda Kendall Fields or Kate Bryant who are talented violinists and experienced professionals. Let Kate entertain your crowd with her arrangements of 90’s alternative and country hits or allow Linda to soothe your guests with Celtic & Scandinavian folk music. These genres are not exclusive, however. Both players offer a variety of traditional and more modern selections. Any atmosphere is within reach! (Solo violin available.)
Kylie B. & the Birds
With husband and wife musical duo extraordinaire Sam (Trumpet/Guitar) & Kylie Irvin (Voice/Keys/Trombone/Flute) at its heart, this jazz ensemble strikes the right balance between bold and subtle. Exercising the members’ multi-instrumental talents, KB&B bounces around through latin, swing, bop, ballad, exotica, atmospheric and pop music to offer an eclectic pastiche at every performance. Include Zack Downes (drums) and/or Andy John (bass/chromatic harmonica) for the full complement/trio or opt for Sam and Kylie to bring it as a duo!
Maybe you’re interested in a specific instrumental option not listed above. Trumpet/Trombone duo? Flute/Guitar/Voice trio? Irvin Music Studio can provide soloists, duets and trios consisting of any combination of these instruments: Guitar, Violin, Flute, Piano, Voice, Trombone, Trumpet, Bass, Ukulele, Synthesizer, Chromatic Harmonica, Drumset… and if you’re interested in a more alternative choice, consider Dinobirds, an effect-heavy, improvisational, “background rock” duo composed of Sam & Zack on guitar, drums and synthesizers.
*Upcharges available to augment time, add extra requests or provide M.C. services. Ask about bundles & lower pricing for non-peak time bookings! Most of all, thank you!
Samuel S. Irvin IV grew up close to Asheville in Brevard, NC before relocating to attend college at UNCA, completing a Jazz Studies and Philosophy double major in 2013. Shortly after graduation, he began teaching at Asheville Music School. In addition to his lessons at the music school, he currently works at Moog (starting in 2015), the electronic instrument manufacturer known especially for it’s high-quality synthesizers, and with LEAF (starting in 2016), an international nonprofit, where he directs ensembles for the ‘Schools & Streets’ program & leads tutorials on electronic instruments.
He and his wife Kylie, a “musical duo extraordinaire,” teach lessons together out of their home studio (in addition to AMS). They perform in many musical projects together, including Kylie B. & the Birds, a versatile jazz ensemble, and The Groove Arcade, the 7 piece soul band. Sam also plays solo classical/jazz guitar for weddings and other events. Most recently, he and Zack Downes have started a progressive improvisation duo, Dinobirds, consisting of eclectic, energetic guitar & drums grounded in sequences set up on synthesizers in real time.
Sam Irvin maintains a study of philosophy and the classics that imbues his perspective with a wide scope of interest. This study creates a foundation for Sam to derive motivation to positively impact the lives of those around him and music is an excellent medium in which to accomplish that. In this way, philosophy and music come together through him to inspire others across the Asheville community to cultivate an awareness of how their endeavors connect to the world at large.
