After 25+ years of working events like this, and trying things in many different ways, we have learned that when you spread everyone out, you just create multiple long lines, and people end up waiting even longer to get a balloon, just in different places. Every artist moves at a different speed and offers different designs, and when working together, we work off of each other's abilities and can accommodate most requests without having to send them to a different line to get what they want. Separate lines also make it harder for the artists to leave on time, unless each line is assigned a volunteer to close the line. As a group, we were able to keep your line moving quickly and many of the children got in line multiple times. We were only there for one hour (though we did start a few minutes early) and we were able to manage the line as a team without going into overtime. If you had any complaints, it was probably from someone that just saw the line and didn't want to wait in it, not realizing how fast it was moving, as we were complimented many times for our speed. For future events, if you'd like multiple separate lines, I suggest an even number of artists broken into teams of two OR assign a volunteer to act as a line manager for each line. I can't speak for the other balloon company you hired, but the event went much more smoothly than I expected, mainly because we were able to work as a team, and I think they would say the same thing.
