About

First, developing a variety of talent showcases and events, Sonny D began to bring different demographics together through a series of open mic performances and showcases entitled GoRealLa or Go Home Rap vs Poetry Showcase . He also released several underground mixtapes earlier in his music career in 2007 entitled Gorealla or Go Home Vol.1 and in 2010 Gorealla or Go home Vol.2. After gaining some exposure as an artist, spokesman, and promoter of Gorealla Ent., Sonny D504 connected with and held leadership positions in government and grassroot organizations such as Justice and Beyond, The New Orleans Business Collaborative, The Isiah Institute of New Orleans, Young Audiences Charter Schools, and The Church of Latter-day Saints and even developed relationships with political officials to establish a solid connection to the infrastructure of New Orleans. Using artwork as means of change, Derrick (Sonny D 504) Strong drew editorial cartoons while being detained in New Orleans Parish prison system. As a direct result of these acts, in 2014 he was elected to executive organizer and leader of Icons for Peace, a grassroot community organization, and while in this position he began to work alongside his brother David aka NewOrleansOwn D. Strong (N.O.O.D.S.) as New Orleans Recreation Department (N.O.R.D) youth coaches and mentors to challenge the educational and economic hindering that were common within low income communities thru addressing first the issues of the youth and young adults. David H. Strong III went on to release his album Strong Minded in 2015 and become head defensive coach for local high school McDonough 35 College Prep, as well as lead the Hardin Tigers, a NORD Park team made up of young boys ages 5 to 15 , into four consecutive championships wins.
In 2016, while leaving a poetry event, Sonny D504 was shot nine times and left for dead. Sonny D504 has since recovered and produced several documentaries about the conditions of violence in New Orleans.
