I play soprano, alto, and tenor sax, and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument). My styles vary from jazz standards up to funk, with everything in between. Imagine the love songs you know, heard on a smooth mellow saxophone. I'm very flexible, and would love to provide the music for your event! I am based out of Farmington, MO.

Surprised Saxophone player for baby shower

Gerry was absolutely awesome! From our very first conversation through the entire event, he was professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. Must Hire!!!

Gerry is an incredible saxophonist and incredibly kind person. He was so flexible with requests, responsive, and a dream to work with. He set an amazing vibe as a soloist during cocktail hour and played with our DJ during the last hour of our reception which was seamless. Our guests LOVED him and he sounded amazing!!! Cannot recommend Gerry enough - no matter what songs you love he can deliver an amazing sound. We had EDM, jazz, pop, funk, and hip-hop requests and he absolutely nailed it all!

What to expect

Expect an energetic, positive show, filled with the smooth sounds of the saxophone, from the romantic, smooth jazz styles up to the funk-styled dance music. Each show would be unique to what the audience desires.

About

At age nine, Gerry Huggins began to explore the musical world with his saxophone. His talents with his sax won him the Outstanding Musician award in senior year of high school. Huggins attended Cal State University and received a BA in Communications. While studying, he continued playing his saxophone at Bakersfield College. This earned him two Most Outstanding Musician awards in the Bakersfield College Jazz Ensemble. In addition, he won two Outstanding Soloist awards for his appearances at the Fullerton College Jazz festival. His love for music turned professional during the mid 90s. He was invited to record with the local band, "The Pleasure Merchants" in their sophomore album, "Rhyme or Reason". Following that, he began playing for a variety of local bands, including "Thee Majestics", "T.O.S.B (The Old School Band)", and "The Rhythm Kings". After collaborating with keyboardist Darnell Gholston, he realized that his true passion was smooth jazz and R&B. Funk, jazz and old school styles are also among the genres Huggins exceeds in. His technique also can stretch from classical to big band. His debut album, "Ocean Breeze" was released in 2002; only to be followed by "A Very Special Christmas" in 2005 and "From the Heart" in 2007.

Additional booking notes

All I need is access to an outlet, as my setup consists of one speaker, and from there I am able to feed in my background tracks. I also have a setup for performing in areas that do not have electricity.

Influences and inspiration

My biggest influence is saxophonist Gerald Albright, but I also have roots in the Old School bands from the 70's (Earth Wind & Fire, Isley Brothers, Tower of Power, etc). All of these grounds helped shape my sound.
