As Lenny Stoute (Toronto Star) once described her: "Guitar slinger and blues singer Gayle Ackroyd is a whole lot of tender and a little bit tough”. She belts out the blue eyed soul with intense energy, grit and class all at the same time. Originally from Brampton and a graduate of Sheridan College's Musical Theatre Program, Guelph's Ackroyd is a prolific and adept songwriter. T.O. Nights wrote: “Gayle Ackroyd clearly enjoys herself on stage. She is professional, polished and has a radiant smile that would stop traffic.” For summer 2023, she is pleased to release her new self-penned single "Radiator (Much Rather Be at Home)" from her latest album "Hooked on Love". The album was produced by Rodger Stevenson.
In the past year she has teamed up with local Jazz guitarist John Brose and bass player Liam Gallagher to perform locally at the Guelph Little Theatre doing upbeat swinging Jazz standards and originals.
Over the decades, Ackroyd has performed onstage with many blues greats. YouTube has some fantastic footage of her performances with Jeff Healey. She is the recipient of numerous songwriting awards and in 2023 was approached by Grand River Blues Society to compete in their Road to Memphis Competition in the solo/duo category along with seven more fine Ontario blues songwriters performing their originals.
