Overview

Gary interweaves a blend of flamenco and classical tempos into his own individual style, having grown up in a family environment of grand opera and classical music. Original compositions he describes as Classical Folk with a flamenco sound. He began at age 13 with his first guitar, an $11 Stella, then playing many years later in the coffee house and festival circuit in Melbourne and Phoenix. His solo music progresses towards writing and developing the sounds of Spanish and classical guitar into his own interpretations. While your on the site, take a look at my set list.

Great time at the ASIC National Conference at the DoubleTree Resort. Very appreciative crowd with positive comments on the variety of music I play and more than a few recording on cell phones. Perfect outdoor weather and a terrific setting under the trees. Thanks Carly, for selecting me!

Beautiful Music for our Art Show!

Gary did a wonderful job providing the perfect ambiance for our outdoor event. His classical guitar music as well as rethought covers of some of our favorite songs made the whole day even more beautiful. I would highly recommend.

Classical Guitar at Art Show

Gary McReynolds' classical guitar playing and singing during the Payson Art League fall show in the courtyard space of the Rim Country BBQ was outstanding and totally appropriate. It set the tone for the entire event. The guests really enjoyed the music as they visited the booths of artists showing their paintings, jewelry, and ceramic art. I can't imagine a better fit. I recommend Gary highly for similar events.

Booking information

Price range: $100 – $300 per event

Languages: English

Gig length: 60 - 180 minutes

What to expect

I typically offer background music for the setting. I may not even have a microphone depending on whether the audience needs song titles or just to exchange pleasantries. My entertainment is from the music and not from clever talk between songs. Although I can provide history for each song via a mic, if it fits the venue.

The music is a mixture of classical pieces from Rodrigo, Sor, Pachabel and Shubert. Several Mason Williams tunes including Classical Gas, that is always a favorite. If someone feels like dancing, there are several Flamenco (Malaguena) and waltzes (yes, Metallica anyone?). Plus several classical originals you'll find soothing.

I show up with a professional JBL sound system and I play a hand-built Yairi classical guitar from Kani, Japan.

Expect me in either a full Scottish kilt dress to honor my ancestry back to MacRannall, c1306, or if you prefer, in classic black, you'd expect a flamenco guitar player to wear.

About

My mother trained at La Scala Italy and Paris, and sang with the New York and Chicago Opera Companies. My brother, a student of Julliard NYC. Classical and flamenco music is what I heard nonstop around the house. Finally in my 40s, after flailing away with rock music for 30 years, I came home to a classical guitar and played in successful duos in Melbourne & Phoenix. Then after retiring in 2016, I joined an Irish band and a flutist/duo for a time and now play classical guitar in Payson, Arizona.

Playing at an outdoor setting or a vineyard for a wine tasting, are my favorite places to perform.

Additional booking notes

At a minimum I play a >50 min set with a <10 minute break. But depending on the setting may just play through for up to 3 hours. I don't use break music but could on request. I drink only water during the sets, but afterwards wouldn't turn down a beer from the host! I set a tip jar up for gas $$, if it's acceptable.
