March 8, 2020Karen is AWESOME!
Took my first class with Karen today. She is an excellent teacher! She explains the moves throughly and breaks down each step perfectly. She has amazing energy and really gets you excited to dance. I take a lot of dance classes and she has been my favorite teacher to date. Thanks for a great class Karen!

Karen was a great teacher and a whole lot of fun! She was patient Andrew encouraging when it took a while to get a step down and gave the right amount of attention to each couple in the class. I would definitely recommend Karen to anyone and can’t wait to go back!

February 8, 2019Awesome teacher
Took her lesson in Nyack and I was not disappointed I went. Been to a few different lessons in the city and she's been my favorite instructor so far. Love her energy and attitude. She's great at communicating and explaining how to do the steps. Will be going back.

What to expect
Where there is a party and you need people to get up and dance, I can get the party going. I'm fun, cheerful, excited, and enjoy challenges. I am willing and able to instruct individuals on the styles of Salsa, Cha Cha, and Bachata, and I keep the party moving for as long as 3 hours alone and with a partner as long as 5. I will show up promptly and will be ready to go on time. With an established agreement I won't leave until the party has ended. I'm helpful and will work with you to make sure your function, party or event is a success. There isn't any job too small that I won't enjoy.

Salsa Music stemmed from Black slaves who were brought to Cuba from such tribes as Nigeria, Congo, Liberia, and Senegal. From peasant music of the 1800's to the form of music we listen to today, there was an evolution that started in the 30’s, and New York Puerto Ricans changed it into Salsa (the Sauce) which is derived from Afro Cuban music. The sauce that remains today from the 1800's is the clave (a sound that blends all the instruments together through a beat, created by either the bass or the conga). In Puerto Rico they had a dance called the seis (six steps) which is danced to a European musical 8-beat scale. The Salsa dance today is a combination of African, Cuban, and Puerto Rican influences of pure joy. The lyrics that many of the songs are influenced by are the celebration of life, love, and the request for equality between all classes of people.

Additional booking notes
I'm no diva and don't demand. I only require we work from a contract. However I will need a little lighting that's just enough so I can see where I'm going and those I'm teaching, as well as a smooth surface to dance (no carpet or tile flooring). My services range from bringing my iPhone to set up via blue tooth speakers that belong to to a DJ. If this is a private lesson with no DK, I’ll bring the speaker.
Once the contract is signed by both parties, and we’re set on what is to be expected from each involved, the event is a go!!

Influences and inspiration
Anyone who wants to become a dancer, period, but of course my passion is Salsa. The dancer who walks in the first day until they see the light bulb go on to the ones that go on to shine. As for real acts that have inspired me, there are just too many to name here. But if you want something from TV that would be dance routines from the show So You Think You Can Dance.
