Overview
We have four bands that can provide live music for your event - the picture could not accommodate them all! The styles of music we provide include folk, folk rock, pop rock, bluegrass, country, country rock, blues, swing and rock 'n' roll, a touch of gospel as well as original compositions. Instrumentation can, depending on the band/song, include voices, guitars (acoustic, electric, slide), violin/fiddle, Dobro, mandolin, lap steel guitar, harmonica, drums and percussion (depending on the band). The set list can be tailored to your preferences. The cover tunes span music from the 1960's to the 2010's. And we have a good time playing, which always livens the mood!

About
We have four bands to offer. It wouldn’t be right or fair to not include them all. Brief Bios follow. Some of the band members are common to all four and some play in a subset of the bands.
Dawglips: This is usually a five-piece band consisting of John Scott (guitars [acoustic & electric], vocals), Jack Kline (guitars [acoustic, electric, slide], mandolin, lap steel guitar, Dobro, harmonica, vocals), Rod Linn (bass, vocals), Tom Berry (drums) and Keith Truxell (percussion). At times we can include up to two additional musicians, who are Kathy Sierra (violin/fiddle, guitar, vocals) and Frank Dorrite (trumpet). Our musical styles trend toward rock, country rock, Cajun/Zydeco and blues although at times and when appropriate we play mostly acoustic instruments and play more country rock and folk rock. Cover songs Dawglips play include some classics and what you might call deep cuts from the 1960’s and extend into the 2000’s. We also like to feature some of our original tunes which are quite diverse in styles and include a number of instrumentals. The original songs are written by either John or Jack or in some cases collaboratively. John and Jack began playing in country-rock bands under various names (Token, Blue Northern) and configurations beginning in the late 1980’s and then as Dawglips in the early 2000’s when Rod began to play with them. Rod has been a fixture in various country and rock bands in East Contra Costa County for years. Tom has musical roots going back to his youth in New Hampshire, playing in various bands until he came out to California. Keith has a long history of playing in drum circles following the Grateful Dead. Kathy is a classically trained violinist who also has played in a Berkeley-based gypsy jazz group and now has a steady gig with the acclaimed Celtic band, Golden Bough. But when she is able, she likes to put on her rock and roll shoes and play with Dawglips (and Dawgwood Trio – see below). Frank is an award-winning trumpeter with roots in drum & bugle corps as well as jazz and likes to join the band when possible.
Midnight Acoustic: We are a five-piece band, the members of which are Jill Collard (vocals, percussion), John Scott (guitars [acoustic & electric], vocals), Jack Kline (guitars [acoustic, electric, slide], mandolin, lap steel guitar, Dobro, harmonica, vocals), Rod Linn (bass, vocals), and Keith Truxell (percussion). Jill’s roots include a stint as lead vocalist for Tenth House, which was part of the Seattle music scene in the 1990’s and performed mostly original material. She continues to write songs and in Midnight Acoustic we perform a number of original songs she and Jack collaborated on, with her singing the melodies and Jack working out backing music and arrangements to fit and adding a few lyrics where required. The other members are all part of Dawglips and individually are discussed in that band’s bio. The sets the band plays beyond the original tunes are rounded out with a diverse collection of cover songs.
Dawgwood Trio: As the name implies the Dawgwood Trio has three members, Kathy Sierra (violin/fiddle, guitar [acoustic and electric] and vocals), Jack Kline (guitars [acoustic, electric, slide], mandolin, lap steel guitar, Dobro, harmonica, vocals) and Rod Linn (bass, vocals). The musical styles in this band range from folk and folk-rock to pop-rock, a little swing, rock and blues. They like to mix it up, not only in the songs that are performed but in the instrumentation that is used in the tunes, bringing fresh sound combinations to the listeners’ ears. The band formed in 2017 from a need to include a musical act in a concert where a scheduled act had to cancel and Kathy, Jack and Rod were already providing musical accompaniment for the Brentwood Community Chorus. They threw together a five-song set for that occasion and the crowd response and level of enjoyment they had provided the spark to continue the project, adding to and expanding their repertoire on a continuing basis.
Bearl Jam: This is a four-piece band that includes two members that are not part of the other three bands introduced here; Mike Stenberg (guitar, vocals) and Colin Sacks (guitar, keyboards, vocals) as well as two that are common to all of these bands, Jack Kline (mandolin, Dobro, lap steel guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Rod Linn (bass, vocals). This band grew from getting together for jam sessions and fun but eventually realized they had something to offer to an audience beyond themselves. Mike has played in a number of bands such as Them Hillbilly Buzzards, brings many flavors of countrified music as well as swing influences to the band’s repertoire whereas Colin has played in several bands over the years and brings some blues and country-rock influences. Rod, Mike and Colin have been playing together for many years and Jack began playing along with them consistently for about three years. The sets usually include some folk, country and country-rock tunes as well as some bluegrass, blues and a touch of gospel. Again, this band brings a diverse array of instruments to their music, providing the listener with fresh sounds and music you don’t hear every day on the radio.
