Florida's Frank Sinatra

The dance floor was full of happy dancers once I found out what they really wanted to dance to. I sure did sing Sinatra for that first 40 minutes (15 songs) and had picked what was familiar to all and what folks usually like to dance to with Sinatra. That was the original request....Sinatra and dance music. When I had zero dancers it was obvious I had to change gears to get the folks up and moving around. While singing I went table to table inviting all to come on the dance floor but to no avail. 2.5 more hours of no dancing would be less than desirable to say the least. So I asked each table what they'd like to hear and passed around a request pad for their choices, Sinatra or otherwise, any style they wanted. Well, that worked as soon as I was able to dial in those requests and kept taking requests throughout the evening from individuals. They kept me busy on the computer and that's why I had to turn away from the crowd but kept an eye on the dance floor population to make sure they stayed there. Seemed to me like they were having a great time for the rest of the evening and I checked in with the coordinator who acknowledged that 'yes, they wanted to dance and there they are'. All in all it was a very friendly crowd and they came up to chat and chuckle with me during the entire evening. Sure, things can change with unexpected reactions to what we thought was wanted but it's a sign of a true pro who can think on his feet while singing and get the audience on their feet and dancing like teens again.
