Overview

Through rich melodies and heartfelt lyrics, I share the stories that shaped me. I’m known for writing catchy hooks and bringing soul into every line. My first single was featured on a CBC reality show, marking an early step toward finding my voice. In 2016, I shared the stage with R&B icons 112 and Ginuwine, and in 2018, I trained with legendary vocal coach Seth Riggs. With over 20 years of experience, I write, sing, and create melodies that blend authenticity with versatility. My sound is rooted in real R&B, but I’m comfortable moving across genres. Whether you need vocals, songwriting, or a full vibe, I’m here to collaborate and bring your vision to life.

About

Emerging from Vancouver, BC, FARA is a multi-hyphenate artist reshaping R&B with a sound rooted in her Malay heritage and lifted by contemporary influence. Born in Singapore and raised on soulful tradition, her music weaves ancestral echoes into modern melodies—storytelling that transcends borders and genres.

Her musical journey took flight with the Vancouver Hip Hop collective Ghos Fienz. From those cypher sessions to a solo debut on a CBC reality show, FARA sharpened her voice through early collaborations with Canadian legends like The Rascalz. Signing to indie imprint Firehouse Records in 2007, she honed her identity at hall parties and club stages across the city.

By 2016, she was opening for R&B greats like 112 and Ginuwine, and in 2019, she made her solo statement with the “About Me” EP, featuring the standout “HGB ft. Dkay.” Her collab with Teon Gibbs on Rose Tape revealed her versatility, while 2022’s bilingual banger “BEACHSIDE” with Grammy and Juno-nominated Jonny Tobin cemented her international reach. Her 2023 single “SOUL” resonated deeply, landing on Spotify’s editorial playlists across Asia.

2024 saw FARA level up. She dropped “FOCUSD” and “THRU” with FiveGawd and Mikky Filmz, linked with Indigenous artists Lady Sincere and Christie Lee, and teamed up with Surrey’s Spotty Josif, amplifying diasporic narratives across the Pacific Northwest. That same year, she co-directed visuals for Aritzia’s official DJ Big Jacks, rising Filipina vocalist Angela Apigo, and LA’s poetic powerhouse Nubiian. She also vibed live with her band on YVR Sessions, spotlighting Canada’s indie music scene.

In May 2025, FARA brought her fusion of soul and story to the Vancouver Asian Film Festival, and on August 16th, she’s set to perform with her full band at the Light Up Chinatown Festival, celebrating heritage, rhythm, and community in the heart of the city.

A champion for Vancouver’s creative renaissance, she headlined URP Radio’s 12th Annual Artist Showcase, hosted Music BC’s Let’s Hear It at The Cobalt, and has moved audiences from SoFar Toronto to ASEAN Day to the BC Lions halftime show. FARA’s voice—magnetic, diasporic, unshaken—is one of a generation dreaming out loud, ready to carry culture forward.

Influences and inspiration

I’m deeply influenced by that golden era of R&B and hip-hop—Aaliyah, Brandy, TLC, Lauryn Hill, and Missy Elliott really shaped the foundation of my sound. Their ability to blend vulnerability, confidence, and culture was everything to me. I also grew up on groups like Destiny’s Child, who brought harmonies, power, and presence to every performance.

On the live music side, the energy of bands that back artists like Kehlani, H.E.R., and Ari Lennox inspires how we build our own sets. There’s something timeless about the way they blend tight grooves with soul and storytelling—it feels both nostalgic and current. We bring that same spirit to the stage: live drums, keys, bass, and that organic feel that makes the crowd feel every word.

It’s all about carrying that legacy forward—honoring the sounds that raised us while carving space for where we’re going next.
