Overview

We are a Phoenix West Side acoustic team playing a mixture of contemporary, modern and classic songs. Falling Rock Zone’s music picks come from the early 60s through to the modern era with a focus on b-sides and deep tracks: … songs that don't get much attention anymore. With a mix of male/female vocals, our selections come from artists like Joni Mitchell, Allison Kraus, Bonnie Raitt and Carol King through Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Jay and the Americans, Dave Matthews and dozens of others. As a special treat, we even offer an entire hour or more dedicated to Joni Mitchell and her friends.

Our sound is a match for your restaurant, bistro, coffeehouse. or private event!

About

Falling Rock Zone consists of a male (Dave) and female (Lynne) primarily playing in a duet. On occasion, we bring our musician friends into the show to include percussion, bass and keys.

Dave:
A 3rd generation native surfer from Santa Cruz, CA, Dave plays guitar, other stringed instruments and provides vocals. He has been playing and studying music and art since 4th grade. He is known for his unique approach to the fretboard utilizing many open tunings, slack key, fingerstyle and occasionally, conventional playing.
A former military firefighter and bomb squad leader as well as a retired Microsoft IT Security Architect, Dave takes refuge in his music and practice of traditional Chinese martial arts.

Lynne:
Lynne Plis is a musician, singer and song writer. She picked up the guitar and mandolin later in life, fortunate to have learned from skilled musicians around the valley. Drawing from country, folk and jazz tradition, she writes about life and love. Her first music job was with an old-time cowboy band, singing Patsy Cline.
Lynne has played at restaurants, folk festivals and showcases in Arizona. Her playlist covers nostalgic era, 60’s folk, soft rock, gospel, contemporary pop, new and old country. She has one country CD, titled Simple Music.
Before music took over her life, she was a painter, a counselor and a lawyer.

Additional booking notes

We're a very simple group. As a duo, we bring in a handful of acoustic guitars and perhaps a mandolin or ukelele. We use Bose PAs exclusively - from our two L1 Compacts up to our L1 Mod II and L1 Pro 16 systems. No extra amplifiers, no sub mix, no monitors ... we play through our mixer to our line arrays and the sound is great.
A special note about our configuration: The PAs we use are designed to project our sound *over* the audience without blasting the front row or causing ear strain in the back.
All we need is adequate room for our gear and ourselves. We usually allocate around 10-15 feet of stage width and 5-8 feet of depth to comfortably accommodate the system and performers. This allows for proper sound coverage and minimizes feedback issues. Don't have enough power where you want the music? No problem. We can also bring along our own solid-state Jackery power supply/generator in a pinch.
We can provide lighting, but generally do our shows 'as-is'. Nothing fancy - just honest music.
