In the words of Elle Zee…
When people ask me how long I’ve been making music, my answer is forever. My mother used to tell me she would know when I woke in the morning because she’d hear me singing from my crib. She, herself was a classical pianist; my father, an avid music-lover. Music has always run through my veins, nourished my soul.
I was classically trained in piano and violin. As a child, I gave piano recitals throughout New York – participating in NYSSMA and NYSTMA. I travelled with my school orchestra to Boston, Florida and Austria to perform. Meanwhile I sang in choirs and performed in musicals (including Bye, Bye Birdie, Carnival and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown).
At age fourteen I was given a guitar for my birthday – adamant that I’d be “the girl with the guitar”. I taught myself some chords and navigated my way around some campfire tunes, entertaining myself and sometimes friends. Eventually I began writing songs and have never found a love more pure as songwriting.
My lyrics ring poetic, as I am also a poet. You can read my poetry here. It can also be found published in The Elephant Mag and Oddball Magazine.
Currently I am honored to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. You can see me there, frequenting various open mics in the Boston Area, or likely busking on the street for fun, though you’ll have a much easier time finding me if you subscribe or check the site for events.
My favorite performances use music to create safe and honest spaces for healing. I have been blessed with opportunities to perform with The Blue Rose and at HarborCov to create healing space for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. I’m also honored to be associated with creative healing spaces like Right Turn Live and Sober in the Sun.
Music, for me, is about honoring, loving and accepting myself, my truth, my light – and sharing it with the world. I have received somatic voice training based on The LoVetri Method which echoes this notion and fortunately spills over into all areas of my life. I hope to share this with others.
Throughout my life I’ve immersed myself in music and walked away from it. Each time I’ve returned it’s been my saving grace. I found my identity in music time and again. It’s been the light on my path, what calls me home. To find, connect to, and fully express my voice has been the greatest gift I’ve ever received.
