Kay Bae: Curating Memorable Experiences

I approach events from a 3 point perspective: Be Empathetic, Be Informed, Be A Source of Joy & Comfort for the room.

My goal is to meet the outlined needs of the client and ensure their guests have a memorable experience. This role can look like: An Activity Lead or Facilitator, A Mistress of Ceremonies, A Spokesperson/Spokesmodel for your brand, A Greeter for your guests, A Motivational Speaker, Panel Host or Speaker, Ceremony Officiant - or whatever you're creative mind can think of!

I hold a Master's and Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor , and my educational background is in social work and sociology. Throughout my career I've held various leadership positions that require me to speak publicly, and inspire others - including leading retreats and workshops, speaking at conferences, and hosting a wide variety of community-focused events. Currently, I curate and host a regular open mic event in Detroit, MI , and work private bookings throughout the city.

My emcee experience includes: Corporate events, Weddings/Bridal Showers/Receptions, Entertainment Events, Private Parties, Religious Ceremonies and more. I am confident that I bring a unique and personalized experience to any occasion; and can be as personable or professional as you prefer.

As a hip hop and spoken word artist, my content is inspired by my life experience as a Black woman from Detroit, navigating the complexities of womanhood, career, relationships, and spirituality. I connect deeply with causes that focus of socio-cultural awareness, equity and justice - particularly for Black and brown people, women, and low-income communities.

My performance style is influenced by the likes of MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rhapsody.
My Performance experience includes: open mics, musical festivals, private parties, educational events, televised events, and corporate events.

Kay, also known as Kay Bae, is an emcee, performance artist, and licensed social worker from Detroit, MI. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (2015), concentrating in Community Action & Social Change, and her Master of Social Work (2016), focusing on Communities & Social Systems—both from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Over the past decade, she has held a range of roles including mental health therapist, care manager, community advocate, consultant, event planner, and mistress of ceremonies.

A proud graduate of Detroit Public Schools, Kay is passionate about the intersection of art, healing, and justice. She envisions cultivating spaces across Detroit where adults of all ages can use their creative gifts to support mental wellness and spark social transformation. Her artistic interests span music recording, spoken word, and theatre.

Kay is the creator and host of Mondaze Open Mic, a recurring performance series that pays and uplifts local talent. In 2024, she launched Sidewalk Talks, a community dialogue series that explores social issues through conversation, art, and civic engagement in Detroit neighborhoods. Through both initiatives, Kay invites people to reflect, connect, and imagine new possibilities for their communities.

As both a performer and curator, Kay remains deeply rooted in Detroit’s arts scene. She believes that art is a powerful tool for building empathy, processing pain, and driving collective healing across all communities.

Microphone & sound system required. Professional sound team preferred. Projector available in the space for visual aids is needed depending upon request.
An agenda for the day of your event, with times, locations, and need to know information must be provided at least 24 hours prior to the start of the event. This must be reviewed with the client prior to the start of the booking.
