DJ Jg
Overview
I DJ weddings, parties, corporate nights and school events across Rochester and southeast Minnesota.
I hang a canopy of a thousand LEDs over the dance floor and program it to your music by hand before the night starts. I mark where each build begins and where the drop lands, so the room follows the song instead of running beside it. Most event lighting is a preset cycling colors while the music happens somewhere else. Mine is not.
Sound, wireless microphones, music for arrivals and dinner, a planning call, your full song list, and a backup of every piece of gear that matters.
One person, not a roster. Packages run $695 to $1, 795.

DJ JG was amazing for our wedding! His lights created a unique atmosphere that's was whimsical and magical at times and bumping party at others. He programmed the lights to sync perfectly with our selected music, nothing like having 1000 lights dance with you and your guests. I loved it. On top of that, he was incredibly flexible. He followed our music preference but was also happy to read the room and take requests from our guests on the fly. We also had strict setup and tear down instructions from our venue that he accommodated. He was professional, easy to work with, and truly made our night unforgettable!

What to expect
BEFORE THE NIGHT
We go through your music properly: the must-plays, the do-not-plays, and the moments that matter to you. We build the timeline together so everyone knows when the entrance, the first dance and the cake happen, and so whoever is speaking is not guessing.
On the canopy package I then sit with every track on the list and program the lighting to it by hand, marking where each build starts, where the drop lands, and where it falls away.
WHAT THE ROOM LOOKS LIKE
A thousand LEDs hung the length of the room over the dance floor, every point controlled on its own, with six color washes on the walls underneath. It can hold one deep color through a slow song, ripple end to end, or chase the beat across the floor.
Because it is programmed to your songs rather than running on a timer, the room moves when the music moves. When the chorus arrives, the whole room arrives with it. Guests notice without being able to say why.
HOW THE NIGHT RUNS
Your call, and you can change your mind on the night. I can play your list straight through exactly as written, take requests from the floor as they come, read the room and adjust, or any mix of those. Most couples want the big moments locked in and room to move once the floor fills.
Arrivals and dinner get music people can talk over. The dance floor gets built rather than switched on.
WHAT YOU CAN COUNT ON
One person, not a rotating roster. Whoever you plan with is who stands behind the booth on the day.
I arrive early, everything that matters has a backup, and I work within the venue's rules rather than around them. I will not need managing on the night, and if something changes I would rather you tell me than work around me.
About
Hey my name is Joshua, and I run DJ JG out of Rochester, Minnesota.
I came to this from the lighting side rather than the music side, which is most of why my nights look different from everyone else's. I build the show before I ever load in. Every song on the list gets listened to properly and marked: where the build starts, where the drop lands, where it falls away. Then the room gets programmed to follow it.
Doing that by hand turned out to be slow enough that I wrote my own software for it. That software now runs the canopy I hang over the dance floor: ten strands of LEDs the length of the room, a thousand points of light, every one its own color at its own moment.
What I am actually after is the moment a floor fills and nobody can quite say why. That is not luck on the night. It is a few hundred small decisions made weeks earlier, at a desk, with headphones on.
I work alone, across southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities. You plan with me, and I am the one who shows up.
Additional booking notes
WHAT I BRING
A sound system sized for the room, wireless microphones for toasts and announcements, and my own booth. Everything that matters has a backup, because the one thing nobody forgives is silence.
THE LIGHT CANOPY
On the canopy package I hang ten strands of LEDs the length of the room, twenty feet each, carrying a thousand points of light that are controlled one at a time. Every point can be its own color at its own moment, so the canopy can hold one deep wash, ripple end to end, or chase the beat across the floor.
It is programmed to the couple's songs by hand before the night. I sit with each track and mark where the build begins, where the drop lands and where it falls away, so the room follows the music rather than running beside it on a timer.
The canopy needs somewhere to hang from: rafters, beams, trussing or ceiling hooks. I check with the venue in advance rather than turn up and find out. If a venue does not allow anything overhead, the booking becomes the Full Night package instead and the difference is refunded.
Six color washes light the walls underneath. Those sit on stands and need no rigging.
WHAT I NEED FROM THE VENUE
Space for a booth near the dance floor, access to standard power outlets there, parking and unloading near the entrance, and access to the room before guests arrive. If any part of the night is outdoors it needs cover from weather.
SETUP AND TEAR DOWN
Sound and washes take about ninety minutes. The canopy takes longer, and where a venue allows it I prefer to rig the morning of the day. Tear down is about an hour with the canopy.
I am happy to work around a venue's curfew, noise limits or same-night clear-out rules. Tell me the constraints early and I will plan around them.
