Dj Cruss

I (DJ Cruss), grew up in St. James Jamaica and immigrated to Canada in the 1980’s. From the day I was born, music has been and continue to be an integral part of my life. I started on my musical journey while residing in Montreal. In 1988, I became a part of the sound crew known as Avenger which underwent a name change to Nighthawk Sound System in 1991. During my time with Nighthawk, I was the main selector and became one of Canada’s finest Djs. I moved to Ottawa in the mid 1990’s but still operated as part of the Nighthawk Sound System family.

Over the years Nighthawk was known to be one of the hottest party/clash sound systems out of Canada. Its founding members included Brenton, Singing P, Stamma, Dj Chris, myself (DJ Cruss) and our newest member Junior Vibes. For many years, we helped to uplift a lot of sounds and assisted many Djs establish themselves in the music industry. During my time with Nighthawk, we played alongside numerous sounds, some that still exist in the music business and others that are no longer involved. These sounds included; Gemini, Body Guard, Silver Hawk, Stone Love, Matterhorn, Black Chiney, Walshy Fire, Razz & Biggie and many more. We’ve also done many tours in Canada, U.S.A. and the Caribbean. The sound is still reaching for higher heights.

With music still running strong in my veins, my love for music, my talent as a DJ and my many years of experience as the main selector of Nighthawk sound, I decided to leave Nighthawk and venture on my own to establish myself as DJ Cruss in 2007. I won my first sound clash/Dj Competition as a solo DJ in Canada in 2013. Musically versatile, I have successfully set the stage to encompass the entertainment of people of all ages, by stimulating their minds, body and souls with an immense selection of music from all genres and eras. My music portfolio includes music such as Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, Soca, Calypso, Pop, Afro Beats, Old Skool and New Skool, Top 40, EDM, House, Dubstep, Dance, Techno etc. You want it, I have it or can obtain it. I have an abundance of experience playing at all different occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, christenings and stage shows. I am always ready, willing and able to spice up all your musical occasions.

I have experience playing alongside some of the greatest Djs and sound systems from various parts of the world such as Jamaica, Antigua, U.K., St Maarten and multiple cities throughout Canada and the USA. My most rewarding experience thus far was setting the vibes for internationally known artists such as Beenie Man, Mad Cobra, Hawkeye, Spragga Benz, Freddie McGregor, Elephant Man, Bunji Garlin, I Octane and many many more. I was also the opening DJ for two Haitian bands Carme, Klasse and T-Vice. I was the featured DJ at The Montreal Reggae Festival and The Ottawa Jamaican Community Festival. During the summer months, I DJ at Mooney's Bay Beach and Britannia Beach in Ottawa Ontario.

Currently, I am expanding my musical horizon by producing a wide range of CDs that can be found on mixcloud, soundcloud and youtube and with the help of Google, you can also find other websites that have uploaded and host some of my mixes. I play as well as an in-house DJ at Urban Planet Clothing Store (Gatineau, Quebec). I am a part of an online radio station Tellstream Radio where I have my own radio show since 2006. You can listen to me on a weekly basis (Eastern standard time). On Wednesdays I play on two radio stations (Tellstream Radio, Vibe City Radio) where I am live locking down two radio stations simultaneously. I am always searching for ways to broaden my horizons/experience and knowledge in order to serve my clients better.
