A graduate of Indiana University's Jacob's School of Music, Diederik van Wassenaer is a classically trained violinist from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Diederik van Wassenaer attended the Conservatory of Amsterdam before moving to Bloomington, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor in Music at Indiana University's Jacob's School of Music.
After graduating in 2013, Diederik has held positions with the Carmel Symphony, Terre Haute Symphony and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. Now living in Nashville, Tennessee, Diederik frequently performs with the Chattanooga, Huntsville and Paducah Symphony. A frequently asked studio musician, Diederik has arranged and recorded strings for bands and solo artists in a wide range of genres as well as for film and video game soundtracks at Nashville's Ocean Way Studios.
Equally at home playing the fiddle, Diederik is a member of the Bloomington-based folk group 'Wonderhills' and has traveled and recorded extensively with singer-songwriters Ben Bedford and Tim Grimm, often appearing together under the moniker 'The Tall Trees'. He also frequently performs Eastern-European and Central-Eurasian music, having collaborated with Indiana University's Silk Road Institute as well as with acclaimed Lithuanian singer Maria Krupoves.
An avid songwriter, Diederik fronts the alt-pop outfit 'Dietrich Jon', who's debut full-length is available September 2nd, 2017.
