Overview
Mythic Soundscapes: Live Dautar Journeys & Ceremonial Music.
I am Dawoud, a composer, improviser, and keeper of the Dautar, a one-of-a-kind hybrid of cello, guitar, and sitar, that channels the otherworldly. My performances are not just background music, but transformative experiences.
For weddings & ceremonies, galleries & salons, or even film/theater/dance projects, my music and improvisations blur the lines between concerts and rituals like a whispered blessing from the cosmos.
I also wield the dilruba (India’s enchanter of the heart) and guitar; often layered with electronic textures.
If you want music you can't find anywhere else, reach out to me.

June 16, 2019Serene, intimate, and beautiful background
Dawoud was playing his sitar while I proposed to my girlfriend and it was perfect. He’s a very skilled musician, very easy to work, and will add a beautiful touch to any event you throw.

Dawoud was so easy to work with, as he was very nice and well organized. We hired him to play at my wife's book launch "The Transmigrant" , many loved his performance. If you want a magical touch to your event, then definitely get Dawoud to play his Sitar for you!

The music was great! Added so much to our "Arabian Night" party. Musician was very nice with good energy and his price was very reasonable compared to others I reached out to. Would definitely use again even if not part of theme..

About
Dawoud Kringle (a.k.a Dawoud the Renegade Sufi) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, leader of the ensemble God's Unruly Friends, and solo performer.
Recently, Dawoud introduced the Dautar into his music. The Dautar is an instrument he designed and commissioned to build that combines the guitar, sitar, and cello.
Dawoud’s music blends, jazz, world, rock, cinematic, electronic, and symphonic. It has been described as sounding like “Hans Zimmer and Jimi Hendrix fighting over a beautiful princess from another galaxy.” He is comfortable in applying unprecedented concepts, techniques, and electronics, a fearless blending of genres, and his focus on the psychoactive properties of sound.
He has performed in the US and Europe, appeared on many recordings - including 13 self-produced solo albums and has enjoyed radio airplay in the US, Europe, Russia, and Indonesia. He produced his concerts as a solo artist and bandleader and has experience composing for film, theater, and dance performances. His neoclassical compositions include chamber works, a symphony, and an orchestral fantasia based on a combination of Indian Raga and Persian Maqam. He is also a skilled improviser and often improvises entire concerts. Some of the people he has worked with include Lauryn Hill, Nona Hendryx, Spaghetti Eastern Music, The Brooklyn Raga Massive All-Stars, DJ Celt Islam, SoSaLa, Ravish Momin (Sunken Cages), The Xylans, Mark Deutsch, Ustad Muzalim Hussain, Idries Muhammad, Jesse "Cheese" Hameen, Junni Booth, Daniel Carter, and many others.
He is a published author, and multi-discipline visual artist, has experience as an audio engineer (live, recording, and radio broadcast), radio show and podcast host and producer, and does stand-up comedy as a hobby. He is a member in good standing with Musicians For Musicians, and the New York Composer’s Circle.
"Dawoud Kringle aka Dawoud the Renegade Sufi, is one of the more forward-thinking, globally-centric and productive music-makers on the New York scene... Dawoud has created a musical world that unites the past, present, and future of sound. For him, no borders seem to exist and the most distant of inspirations, the most seemingly warring thoughts can live in perfect harmony. This is music as a healing and calming force, something the world needs now more than ever. "

Additional booking notes
I would need to know details of sound equipment at the performance venue. Depending on the situation, I will need a chair or cushion, and maybe a small table. I also need an electrical outlet (a power strip would be ideal). And further details we can work out between us.
