About

The DAVELLIE BAND performs traditional gypsy jazz as well as award winning original songs in swing and blues styles. David Williams started the first gypsy jazz band in CO over 20 years ago when he moved to Denver---THE HOT CLUB OF THE ROCKIES--and since been responsible for creating other bands, including the cabaret group--TRICKSTER CAROUSEL. He has played gypsy jazz guitar, mandolin, and violin for decades and studied with a number of greats---both in Europe and the US--from Robin Nolan, to Gonzalo Beraga, on guitar; to Tim Kliphius, Jason Anick, and Eva Slongo, on violin; and with the great jazz mandolinist Jethro Burns of Homer and Jethro fame). David is most known as an Emmy winning songwriter for his work with PBS, and he has had over 100 million hits for his songs on YouTube, while also releasing over a dozen albums of original songs of folk, americana, kids music in a bluesy-swing style, gypsy jazz, blues, and instrumentals. As a songwriter, he has often been compared to artists such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and John Prine, and to singers such as Leon Redbone.

Ellie Brown is an incredible singer-songwriter, jazz stylist, and uke & accordion player. She is utterly charming both on stage and off, with two remarkable CDs to her credit. Her fun and quirky songs swing to life with both whimsy and panache. It's impossible to walk away from hearing Ellie without humming one of her unforgettable compositions.

The band features jazz legend, bassist, Duane Webster, who has played with everyone from Tommy Emanuel to you name it--a longtime fixture in the Colorado music scene.

Evan Yardley is a superb gypsy jazz guitarist, and a renowned luthier, who joined the band in 2024, along with a brand new percussionist--Adelle Kannar--who brings perfect timing and makes the band swing.

REVIEWS

"Williams works magic." Newsweek magazine

"Williams' songs teach as well as entertain." Chicago Tribune

"Nashville resident, outstanding poet and gifted singer/songwriter Williams is a genius. Each [of his] songs is pristine and magical as it brings you in . . . ." The Nashville Music Guide

"When first listening to David Williams, one is taken back to the classic jazz musicians and their characteristics of being strong vocalists. Featured on the track is a mix of sultry jazz and a reflecting lyrical rant. With the strumming of the guitar and the light variety of other instruments in the background, Williams pays homage to the traditional gypsy jazz while making it into something completely his own." The Music Court

“You will be knocked out by Williams. . . reminiscent of Ry Cooder and Leon Redbone--terrific.”
The Chicago Sun Times

“I’ve seen a lot of singer-songwriters pass through over the years; most of them quickly forgotten. But every once in awhile, someone rises up with a real talent for lyrics, and such a talent is David Williams.”
