A California native, music performance has always held a significant role in my life—dare I call it a love of mine? However, I was always told to get a degree even if my long-term plans always revolved around music, thus I graduated from UCSB with a B.S. in Psychology. Psychology was a great choice for me for a multitude of different reasons, but the critical thinking skills I acquired while earning my degree allowed me to become a still greater musician who is on a constant journey to develop and advance his artistry. Another reason psychology has had a profound impact on my musicianship is due to the fact that I deeply understand how the brain interprets music—both for the listener and the performer. Now, I have been playing music for over twenty years and teaching for over a decade. Psychology is still an integral part of my love of music—especially when it comes to guiding young musicians. My setlist falls into two categories--originals and covers. For covers, I have a diverse setlist including songs like Fly by Sugar Ray, The Scientist by Coldplay, Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson, I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie, The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix, Dear Brother by Nahko and Medicine for the People, Bowl for Two by The Expendables, The General by Dispatch, Wiseman by Slightly Stooped, Hey Yeah by Obadiah Parker, and much more. My originals include hits off my three albums. Some of the songs are entitled Chillin with the Homies, Solid Ground, Early Mornin Sunrise, and Star-Gazer.
In my performances I incorporate songs from several different genres, but happy, upbeat beach tunes and rock n' roll inspired melodies dominate much of my set lists. Jack Johnson, Jimi Hendrix and Sublime are just a few artists I draw inspiration from. I also find influence from lesser known bands like Nahko and Medicine for the People and The Beautiful Girls. Regardless your music preference, I curate an epic show guaranteed to entertain!
