Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Taylor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.

I am the Owner & Operator of Cocktails Done Right. I was born in Houston and have lived here most of my life. I began my career at the Bartending School in 1993 oddly enough is where I currently work as an Instructor. After graduating I started competing in local Flair Bartending competitions and since have acquired 3 World Titles along the way. My biggest accomplishment was winning first place for the Gold Shaker representing the U.S. in Warsaw Poland where the finals were held in the Ujazdowski Castle. First place was a trip around the world in 3 weeks! What an adventure that was.

When I returned I was doing lots of interviews including one I did with Terry Bradshaw on A&E plus local KPRC2, FOX26, KHOU11 and WG39. I started this business because I wanted to use my skills and knowledge to elevate the private party scene. I have learned allot about this Industry in my 24 years of service and have brought the same dedication and passion to my business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had to learn a lot being a business owner for the first time. Lots of trial-and-error in the first year of business. If you want do something then do it badly in the beginning until you get good at it. We all have to start somewhere and I think that is sometimes the hardest part when starting a business on your own. I wanted to do everything to the best of my capabilities but I had to learn along the way.

Please tell us about Cocktails Done Right.
We provide professional bartending services for special events, weddings, anniversaries, domestic and corporate parties. We mix the drinks you mix the people is our motto. We specialize in first class service and drinks. We bring a wealth of experience and knowledge that is unlike any other. All of our bartenders are trained professionals and our licensed by the state. All of our bartenders know well over a hundred recipes and can improvise any drink on the Fly. I personally train each and every one of my bartenders because at the end of the day I want the client to have the best experience possible.

In very rare cases I get clients that want an over the top experience. That is my specialty and is where I personally come to your event and provide a Vegas style bartending experience with mind blowing tricks and drinks that will surely impress any guests. This is what sets me apart from the others. Just imagine the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise…. Now multiply that by 10! It took a lot of hard work and dedication get to where I am today. If I didn’t have a passion for what I do, I never would have accomplished all that I have.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I saw the movie “Cocktail” starring Tom Cruise when I was around 16 years old. The movie made such an impression on me that I decided to be a bartender. At the age of 19 I made that dream come true and started my path as a trick style bartender. Since that day I have never looked back and have continued my success.

BUYING AND PURCHASING ALCOHOL

One of the first questions every client asks is how much alcohol should I purchase for a party?

The first step in figuring out how much alcohol to purchase is estimating how many people will be coming to your party.

Once you determine how many guests, ask yourself a couple of questions.

* What type of drinks would my guests prefer? (beer, wine, liquor)

*Should we provide a limited menu of specialty drinks or a full bar?

A limited menu of 2 – 4 specialty drinks can be offered to guests. This can help keep the cost of your party down as you will only need to purchase the alcohol, mixers and garnishes in those specific drinks.

Here's an example of a five drink menu put together with a client for a Wedding Reception.

The five drinks offered were a Moscow Mule, Bay Breeze, French 75, Old Fashion & Whisky Sour.
Next, take the number of guests expected to attend and multiply by the estimated number of drinks consumed per person.
Example, 150 people at your party and three drinks per person equals 450 total drinks.
Next, take the number of guests expected to attend.
Example, * 30 people at your party and three drinks per person equals 90 total drinks.
At a dinner party or cocktail party you can expect guests to consume around two to three drinks per person.
At an evening party each guest may consume three to four drinks per person. The amount of drinks consumed depends on the time of day, the event, the type of function and how wild your friends are.

Next, take an inventory of what alcohol you currently have.
For the alcohol that you need, here's a guide to estimate.

LIQUOR:

* 750ML bottle of liquor will yield 16 drinks w 1.5oz alcohol

* One liter bottle will get you 22 drinks w 1.5oz alcohol

* 1.75 ML bottle will get you 50 drinks w 1.5oz a alcohol

CHAMPAGNE or WINE
* 750ML bottle of wine or champagne will yield 4 glasses.
* One liter bottle of wine will get you 6 servings.

* ICE is an average of 1lb per person for drinks and 1lb per person for beer, wine and N/A drinks
