Stephanie Henry is a composer and pianist based in Minneapolis, MN, known for creating unique musical experiences that blend classical music with influences from her multiracial heritage, modern pop, R&B, rock, and Southern styles. She pushes boundaries through genre fusion, focusing on stories about people of color.
Stephanie is co-writing a stage musical about Philippa Schuyler, a biracial piano prodigy from the Harlem Renaissance, exploring themes of identity and acceptance through a dynamic, eclectic score. She’s also working on Willow Storm and the Lightning Bolts, a coming-of-age musical set in the 1980s about two artists navigating their journey to stardom while grappling with identity, gender expression, and friendship.
Her music reflects her commitment to using art as activism and resistance. As a composer, performer, and educator, Stephanie balances her creative work with teaching, sharing her passion with others. She is a recipient of several Creative Individuals grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and has participated in several artistic residencies, including Westben’s performer-composer residency.
