Introducing Chip Darby, an emerging musician from Southeast Texas whose unique blend of southern rock, outlaw country, and a touch of SWLA swamp pop re- flects his Cajun roots With a style deeply rooted in authenticity and passion, Chip is quickly making a name for himself in the SETX music scene and beyond. Chip's musical journey began at the age of 15. Growing up as the youngest of four in a single-parent household, he faced many challenges early on. One unforgettable Christmas, a kind gesture from a local legend- Tracy Byrd--bright- ened his life. His mom, in a difficult year was donated a guitar that Tracy Byrd kindly signed and gifted to Chip The guitar hung on the wall for several years. Motivated by this gift and a fierce determination, Chip was dragged kicking and screaming to his first guitar lesson. Within six weeks, his instructor told his mother that Chip had surpassed his teaching ability. From there, he took off- learning on his own through YouTube, studying music theory, scales, and the Nashville number system. In- spired by legends like BB King, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill Travis Tritt, and most notably Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chip's style continues to evolve and captivate audiences. Chip began playing professionally at just 17 years old, serv- ing as the lead guitarist for a Texas Red Dirt band on the Houston circuit. Because he wasn't old enough to enter many of the venues, his mom had to bring him to every show- supporting him every step of the way.
At 18, Chip branched off from the band to create a sound all his own. Around that time, his mom heard about a local singing contest at The Oaks Event Center in Vidor. The prize? An opening slot for the legendary McBride & The Ride. Chip entered--and he won. When the night of the big show arrived, Chip stepped onto that stage and delivered a standout performance that instantly turned heads. Representatives from the Texas Country Music Asso- ciation were in attendance for McBride & The Ride's concert, and they immedi- ately recognized Chip's tal- ent. We knew then Chip had a gift. As he walked off stage he was approached by a lady who introduced herself as the President of TX-CMA Linda Wilson. She invited Chip to the
upcoming TCMA awards show
In Ft Worth and presented him with the 2023 artist schol- arship award. This included recording and radio distribu- tion of one original song. In 2024 Chip released where the creek flows on all platforms . SInce that day doors would open and Chip has formed his out band Vintage soul.
