John J. Chatterton, teacher, performer, and advocate for music education, hails from New York with a double bachelors and masters degree in Music Performance and Music Composition and currently resides in Tampa, Florida. He looks to teach and share his love and knowledge of music with anyone that has the desire to learn. John possesses a vast knowledge of other music genres from fiddle to video game music, and likes to incorporate that into his teaching as well as his performing. With a combination of standard and unorthodox teaching methods, John brings a new level of enjoyment to learning the instrument, and enjoyment to those who listen to him.
John was professional, extremely warm and sincere and played absolutely beautifully! He made our event absolutely lovely and added a warm elegance that we were looking for as we honored my mother!

John J. Chatterton is a rising composer/performer aspiring to dedicate his musical life to collaboration. As a composer, John has worked with ensembles such as Gaudete Brass Quintet and the Mivos String Quartet, both of whom performed his pieces "Picayune" for Brass Quintet, and "I Dream My Dream" for String Quartet. In June of 2013 John attended the Chamber Music Institute at the University at Nebraska-Lincoln as the cellist of the Mélange Quartet, to study with the renown Escher String Quartet. In 2012 he participated in a masterclass with Yo Yo Ma, and in 2013 a masterclass with Dawn Upshaw and Gilbert Kalish. John received an award in 2012 for "Best Composition" for solo violin, performed and recorded by violinist Maureen Yuen. This award was presented to Mr. Chatterton at SUNY Fredonia where he completed his double Bachelors of Music in Music Composition and Music Performance. John is currently the acting principle for the USF College Symphony Orchestra and is a sectional coach for the Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestras. John is originally from Oswego, New York and presently resides in Tampa, Florida pursuing his Masters of Music and maintaining a Teaching Assistantship under Scot Kluksdahl and Helga Winold at the University of South Florida.
