Chelsea Mazzotta and Brian Weaver met in 2010 when they were both music students at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. Soon thereafter, they started to collaborate for acoustic duets, most notably for Seton Hill’s annual “Love Notes” concert and McKenna Melodies performances. In 2012, the pair joined forces again in Seton Hill University’s Jazz Combo. The combo, which included voice, drum set, bass, guitar, coronet, saxophone, trumpet, and hand percussion, would soon set the stage for the duo’s interest in jazz and acoustic covers. The pair continued the combo throughout the remainder of their undergraduate years. Upon graduation, the duo continued their work together, combining talents to create a soulful and effortlessly simplistic acoustic blend. And in 2015, the pair founded Briar Rose. They began performing throughout Westmoreland County, in venues including The Supper Club, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, and West Overton Museums.
Since their founding in 2015, Brian and Chelsea have performed throughout Westmoreland and Allegheny counties. In 2015, the pair performed for the opening of the Seton Hill Visual Arts Center.
They returned to the venue again in 2016 for “Yarn Bomb Greensburg”, an event to raise awareness of the effects of domestic violence.
Toward the end of 2015, Chelsea and Brian began to expand their repertoire, adding country, blues, and oldies to their set list. Soon, Briar Rose began to play for special events and parties. The pair then took an interest in exploring a larger, fuller sound, and in the fall of 2015 founded “House of Leaves”. This new band specialized in jazz, blues, pop, and fusion music. With the addition of previous combo members Dave Henry on bass and Ben Wingrove on drum set, new possibilities arose. Since it’s inception, “House of Leaves” has played in venues including The Supper Club, Greenhouse Winery, and West Overton Museum’s Annual “Whiskey Smash” Event, among others.
Chelsea Mazzotta and Brian Weaver continue to focus on creating unique and expressive acoustic covers for young and old alike. Today, they continue to perform in venues throughout the Pittsburgh Area, expanding Briar Rose’s reach to audiences all over Western Pennsylvania.
We provide our own sound system for our events, so we do require access to electrical outlets.
