Roots songwriter & singer, painter and poet, Brianna Lea Pruett’s musical expressions travel widely, much like herself. Country born and urban raised, she portrays her native California folk, country, and the musical style of her Cherokee and Appalachian heritage with equal passion as compositions that show a love for jazz, blues, and soul music.
With an education that came mostly from her parents vinyl collection and family songs, she is available to perform her original music and tasteful covers made all her own both solo on her guitar or with a band. Her basic enjoyment of people makes house concerts some of her best shows. She is a signed recording artist with Canyon Records.
When my angel bride Brenda left this world Brianna's music became a powerful healing to me. When Brianna left this world it was like Brenda had left again and my life was shattered. Now her music again heals the soul. Her song "Under Your Wing" is a perfect example of this healing especially from Kulaks Woodshed where she sings with passion and soul and her words, "The wiping of the tears works on memory and years" resonate through me. And her Keeping You In Mind is much more then a individual statement at least to me. "There's a time for sorrow and a time for grace" comes to mind quite often to me and this is why her words I believe are universal as many great songwriters do this with a simple line that can be as powerful as a hurricane or as true as life itself.

What to Expect
sample scenario, dependent on what is discussed beforehand with the client:
Brianna arrives at the event 40 minutes to 1 hour prior to set up equipment and merchandise if ok'd, and meet and greet. Once set up and sound-checked, which can be accomplished with one other person who is not experienced with sound, she greets the audience and talks back and forth with them a little before starting her first set, which lasts 35-45 minutes. During her first set she plays 10 songs, 8 originals and 2 covers of classic folk material by an artist such as Woodie Guthrie or Elizabeth Cotten. She takes a 15-30 minute break to relax and talk with her audience in a more informal way. She gathers information from them during this time about what they enjoyed the most, and her second set of 30-45 minutes will be based on feedback from the first set. After she is done playing, she will remain for likely 30-40 minutes to talk with folks, answer questions, chat, and sign records or take photographs.
Native American roots-oriented singer-songwriter, painter and poet from Gold Country, California, Brianna Lea Pruett’s musical expressions travel widely, much like herself. Born in the mountains of Northern California and a singer from her earliest days, she portrays California folk, country, and the musical style of her Appalachian heritage with equal passion as compositions that show a love for jazz, blues, and soul music.
With a musical education that came mostly from her parents vinyl collection – a mix of classical and choir, Jimi Hendrix, Roberta Flack, Janis Joplin, Leo Kottke, Leonard Cohen, John Denver, and Carole King, and Doc Watson, she works with diverse artists in many genres. Brianna studied with Meredith Monk’s House Foundation in NYC and continues to use the methods, which became an inspiration for her in 2005. She is learning to speak and sing in her native languages of Cherokee and Choctaw, a lifetime journey.
She has shared stages with Jonah Matranga of Far and Gratitude, Jacob Golden, Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters, Two Sheds, Nick Jaina, Coal Beautiere, Karl Blau, Lady Lazarus, Good Shield Aguilar, and others. One continued influence she cites is her philosophy of art making. “Being a performer, an artist, a writer, a commentator or contributor has responsibilities of being authentic to one’s important things in life.” Love, family, home, and heritage consistently show up in the music.
Pruett has recently released a full length album, The Stars, The Moon, The Owl, The Cougar, and You, an EP of 5 new songs titled Keeping You In Mind, and has completed a new LP recording, Gypsy Bells, due out with Canyon Records in summer of 2013.
