Brian Lorett - Live Cello

Booked for my very small and intimate wedding. Brian has a beautiful personality and is an absolute professional. The music was everything I asked for and so beautiful. He is an impeccable artist with so much talent. Would 100% recommend Brian for any event and would absolutely hire again.

Yesterday, I was sitting in Buschman Street Cafe on a day that wasn’t particularly bad, but certainly wasn’t one of my best. I was tired, mentally overwhelmed, and carrying the kind of stress that comes with owning a business, running a bakery, taking care of everyone and everything around you, and simply trying to keep moving when life feels heavy.

I was sitting there quietly when, almost without realizing it, I began to feel different.

Calmer.

The tension I had been carrying seemed to loosen, and this incredible sense of peace came over me. At first, I honestly didn’t understand why. Then I stopped what I was doing and really listened.

It was the cellist playing in the background.

Initially, I had thought I was simply hearing music over the speakers. But then I began noticing the way the notes rose and fell, the crescendos, the pauses, the emotion behind every phrase—and I realized I wasn’t just hearing music. I was experiencing it.

There is a difference between someone who knows how to play an instrument and someone who knows how to make an instrument speak.

This gentleman made his cello speak.

There was so much emotion in the way he played that it felt as though every note carried a piece of his soul with it. And somehow, without knowing anything about me or the weight I had been carrying, his music reached across that room and quieted something inside of me that had not been quiet in months.

As a bakery owner, my days are usually filled with noise—mixers running, timers going off, phones ringing, customers coming in, deadlines, orders, employees, bills, and a mind that rarely seems to stop thinking about what needs to happen next. I have become so accustomed to functioning in that constant state of movement that I had almost forgotten what it felt like to simply be still.

Yesterday, for a little while, his music gave me that.

Peace.

I waited until he had finished his entire set before approaching him because I needed to know if he recorded his music anywhere. He told me that I could find his work on Spotify and, I believe, Apple Music. I immediately looked him up and saved his music so that I could listen in my car and during those moments when life becomes a little too loud.

I walked into Buschman Street Cafe yesterday as a stressed-out bakery owner who had never given much thought to becoming a listener of cello music.

I walked out as one.

Music is an extraordinary thing. Sometimes we don’t realize how badly we need it until the right musician, with the right instrument, plays the right notes at exactly the right moment.

To the cellist who played yesterday: thank you. You may have simply thought you were performing your set, but for at least one person sitting in that room, you did something much greater.

You gave me a moment of peace when I desperately needed one.

And that is something I will remember for a very long time.
