Abigail Monroe- Cello

Cellist Abigail (Abby) Monroe has been praised for her “rich resonance” and “emotional depth” (For All Events) and has established herself as a sought-after solo performer, chamber musician, and large ensemble collaborator throughout the United States and internationally.

Abigail is currently the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Missouri Symphony, and is a member of the Cello Sections of the West Michigan Symphony and Orchestra Iowa. She performs regularly with many orchestras nationwide, including the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, The Orchestra San Antonio, Mobile Symphony, Des Moines Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, and Northwest Indiana Symphony, among many others. She has appeared as Principal Cellist with the Rapides Symphony, Peoria Symphony, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, where she was a Regular Member for three seasons.

Festival appearances include Maverick Chamber Music Festival, Crescent City Chamber Music Festival, Mendocino Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, Grand Canyon Music Festival, OK Mozart Festival, Firefly Music Festival, Lily Rock Chamber Music Festival, and Festival de Febrero in Ajijic, Mexico.

As of 2025, Abigail is the cellist of the Lott Quartet, Ensemble-In-Residence at both the University of New Orleans and the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival. In addition to actively performing chamber music with the Lott Quartet, Abigail is a regular collaborator with the Manhattan Chamber Players.

As the cellist of the award-winning San Francisco Bay Area-based new music group Ensemble for These Times from 2021 to 2025, Abigail recorded and released an album of rarely heard chamber works and film music arrangements with the trio. During her tenure with Ensemble for These Times, Abigail premiered numerous compositions by living composers for both solo cello and chamber ensemble.

In addition to World-Premiere performances with Ensemble for These Times, her recent solo engagements include concerto performances with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra and the New Mexico Philharmonic.

Ms. Monroe holds both a Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Studies Diploma in Cello Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy.

For the safety of the performers and preservation of equipment, musicians will not perform in inclement weather, including but not limited to rain, high winds, extreme temperatures, or lightning. Alternative arrangements should be made in the event of unfavorable weather conditions.
