The Acoustics are a coed acapella group from Boston College The "stix" pride themselves on the diversity of their repertoire, wailing away on 70s rock, 80s pop, and contemporary favorites. The Acoustics have released a total of seven albums. The most recent one, titled "Fire It Up", was released in the 2008. A new album is in the works. Outside the studio, the Acoustics have made appearances at a variety of venues across the country. Their resume includes gigs at the National Cathedral, Miami, benefit concerts in San Diego and throughout the east coast, televised broadcasts on CBS & NBC, & the set of Jeopardy! They have also sung the national anthem for the Utah Jazz and Boston Red Sox.
I had the privilege to hear the Boston College Acoustics "perform" at a wedding. I say "perform" because their performance was quite surprising for nearly all in attendance. You see, the groom hired the BC Acoustics to attend the wedding and then, as the ceremony concluded, perform the couple's favorite song in a flash mob fashion. Just as the couple kissed and the applause began to die down, one of the groups members stood up and belted out the opening line to Dave Matthew's song "Everyday" which prompted the rest of the acapella group to stand up and join in the singing. The bride was completely caught off guard, but absolutely loved the performance. Then as the couple walked down the aisle, the Acoustics sang "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," ultimately concluding the ceremony. The Acoustics handled themselves professionally and really succeeded in hiding within the crowd.
