Bossa Três has been performing Bossa Nova and Brazilian Samba classics, as well as a variety of Brazilian rarities; Jazz Standards and Latin Jazz for over a decade in all kinds of events and venues, including the legendary Rex Hotel, the Reservoir Lounge, the Gladstone Hotel, Gate 403 and The Lula lounge. The quartet’s repertoire draws from the greatest Brazilian composers, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Newton Mendoça and Ary Barroso; performing their original Portuguese versions. For the Latin pieces of its repertoire, they do the Spanish versions of Buenavista Social Club, and all other Latin great ones. And when performing Jazz Standards, from composers such as Ellington and Van Heusen, they again, render the original versions.
The ensemble consists of band leader Victor Monsivais: vocalist, songwriter, and arranger, who sings songs in their original languages and plays the guitar, with the true Bossa, Swing and Latin beats. Bassist Frank Sants who delivers deep toned bass lines with precise timing and skilful creative solos; and drummer/percussionist Federico Monsivais who plays with a soft, classical feel, yet, with the attack and syncopation of the authentic Latin rhythms and Jazz swing, maintaining the rhythm hard and steady. Bossa Três also performs as a quartet or quintet featuring a wide variety of talented musicians.
Bossa Três achieve, apparently effortlessly, that rarely heard hard-smooth Brazilian rhythm and harmonies, creating an aura of "alegría & saudade" which are the two basic ingredients of Brazilian music and recall the atmosphere of a quiet night in Copacabana, or the mood of a Carnival in Bahia. They bring pure joy when they play Latin music and reminisce a hot Tropicana session in La Habana; and invoke that indescribable mood and romance of a Manhattan evening when they play jazz standards.
Many have said that listening to Bossa Três is like being transported to a warm evening in Rio De Janeiro in the early sixties.
