Overview

Hi! I'm Bob and I play solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I like to think of my arrangements as a one man band with many aspects of a band like bass, drums, harmony and melody. I play a lot of songs from the 60s to 80s and I also have many originals. I think you'll find my act interesting!

What to expect

I'm a solo act that plays a lot of the great music from the past and I can play many songs on demand if I know it off the top of my head. People have found that my style is really dynamic and can interact with a large array of audiences very well. I can play soft, or even very loud and powerful; it's a truly a one-man band on one guitar.

About

Bob Ma is an American fingerstyle guitar performer and recording artist. Born in Alberta, Canada, in 2000, he is currently based in Portland, Oregon. Bob is studying guitar performance with a focus on jazz at the Berklee College of Music.

He has released several singles on streaming platforms, as well as three albums. His latest, Echo Reverie, features twelve original songs written and performed by Bob on solo acoustic guitar. This album is also the only one for which physical copies are available.

Bob began playing guitar at the age of nine but didn’t start exploring fingerstyle until he was sixteen. His initial inspiration came from Tommy Emmanuel, with whom he later shared the stage at one of his guitar camps. Today, Bob draws influence from jazz, as well as funk and R&B music from the 70s and 80s, developing his own unique approach to arrangements with a focus on the fine details in each song.

With live performance experience across seven countries and three continents, Bob connects with audiences through his emotionally charged music, wit, and humor.

Passionate about teaching, Bob helps students arrange and perform fingerstyle music. He believes that education in this genre is often too "abstract and unclear," and through his teaching, he has reached students in over twenty countries, contributing to the growth of the fingerstyle music community he loves.

Additional booking notes

I can bring my own gear and sound equipment, but for events that require me to talk, I would prefer to have a mic.
