Becoming a Magician
Before Chris Anthony became a magician, he worked as a butcher, and little did he know that fate had a magical twist in store for him. It all began during his days working at a deli, where the manager happened to dabble in the mystical arts during his off-hours. “He showed me a trick that I will never forget,” says Chris. “He put a coin in my hand, which turned into a different coin while I was holding it. From that moment, I knew that magic was going to be a part of my life.”
And it has. Chris has been a successful practicing magician for over 20 years. He performs magic, mind reading, card tricks, and illusions, making him a sought-after entertainer in the New York City area.

GS: How has GigSalad made the booking process easier for you? Are there any specific features or tools that you find particularly helpful?
CA: I love the fact that GigSalad takes payment in full but holds it until after the event. This way, I don’t have to chase anyone down after the event in order to get paid, and I also haven’t already spent the money because they paid a month ago. I also like how easy the platform is to navigate. Very user-friendly.

GS: What sets your services apart? What unique attributes do you bring to events that lead to repeat clients?
CA: I think the thing for me that leads to repeat business is that I do a great job for the customer. I keep in contact with them before the event, I always show up early, and do a great job. Everything I do is geared towards making their event the best it can be.

GS: Can you share some tips and tricks for optimizing your GigSalad profile? What strategies have you used to attract more clients and stand out in your market?
CA: All you have to do to optimize your GigSalad profile is listen to GigSalad. They tell you exactly what to do and always give you tips on improving. Personally, I respond to a request as soon as possible. I always tell them to look at my profile page, where I have a lot of pictures, videos, and reviews.

GS: If you could give ONE piece of advice to someone considering joining GigSalad, what would it be?
CA: If I were going to give one piece of advice to anyone thinking about joining GigSalad, it would be “Just Do It.” One or two shows will pay the membership fee for the entire year. You really can’t go wrong with having GigSalad as a part of your lead generation mix. GigSalad will bring a lead to you that wouldn’t have found you. Also, reviews are very important nowadays, and GigSalad’s verified reviews are a great way to let prospective clients see what other people who have hired you have to say.
Memorable Moments
Of course, with over 20 years of performing under his belt, Chris has had many memorable moments. A particular review, however, stands out from the crowd, “One of my favorite reviews was from a lady that said she has seen all the major magic shows going on around NYC, and my show was better than all of them. Now personally, I don’t believe that, but it was nice to hear!”
Performing magic is Chris’s passion, and he’s grateful that he’s been able to make it his career. “I love my job, and giving people that sense of wonder that they probably haven’t felt since they were kids is the best feeling in the world. When someone you just met tells you that you made their night, you can’t get much better than that.”
