Grand Opening Happy Hour

For our 150 person event, we hired Josh + a bartender, 2 servers, and coat check attendant. Everyone was punctual and dressed professionally. During the event, there was never too long a line at the bar or coat check, the servers not only helped with set up and breakdown, but any other miscellaneous items to make sure the space was tidy. We truly could not have run such a successful, well oiled event without their help. We originally only sought bartenders, but it was super helpful to have these extra services, equipment rentals, and other staff offered under the same company! Highly recommend.

To keep things seamless, I provide detailed grocery lists—or, for added convenience, we can supply everything for you.

In addition to bartending, I offer experienced event staff including servers, bussers, dishwashers, and door staff, as well as rentals such as portable bars, coat racks, coolers, ice buckets, and more. My name is Josh Berresford, owner of Big Star Hospitality LLC. I got my start bartending at 18 back in Pittsburgh, and for the past 20 years I’ve been working events throughout New York City and the surrounding areas. For the last decade, this has been my full-time focus.

I bring over two decades of hands-on experience behind the bar and on the floor, and I genuinely enjoy helping clients pull off seamless, memorable events. Whether I’m bartending, staffing, or coordinating the flow of service, I take pride in being reliable, easy to work with, and one step ahead of what’s needed.

At the end of the day, it’s simple—I want your event to run smoothly and your guests to have a great time. That’s what I show up to deliver every time.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is tailored to each event to make sure you’re getting exactly what you need—nothing more, nothing less. It’s based on guest count, the type of bar service, the length of the event, and any additional support like additonal staff, rentals, ice service, or having us handle the shopping for you.

To make things easy, I’ll send over a quick questionnaire to gather all the details upfront. From there, I’ll put together a clear, customized quote—no hidden fees, ever—so you know exactly what to expect. My goal is a smooth, stress-free process and a polished, professional experience from start to finish.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our process is designed to be simple, organized, and stress-free from the start.

Once you reach out, we’ll send over a quick questionnaire to gather all the key details—guest count, event type, timing, bar preferences, and any rentals or additional staffing you may need. From there, we put together a clear, customized quote so you know exactly what to expect—no hidden fees.

After booking, I stay personally involved to make sure everything runs smoothly. We’ll help you plan your bar setup, go over drink options, and provide a detailed shopping list or handle the shopping for you if you prefer. As the event approaches, we confirm all logistics so everything is seamless day-of.

On the day of the event, our team arrives early to fully set up, execute service professionally, and handle cleanup so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Our goal is to make the entire experience effortless and ensure you and your guests have a great time.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My background comes from over 20 years of hands-on experience in the hospitality industry, including bartending, serving, and managing events throughout New York City and the surrounding areas. I started bartending at 18, and over time I’ve developed a deep understanding of service, efficiency, and how to run a smooth, professional event.

I stay up to date on cocktail trends, service standards, and best practices so clients always receive a polished, modern experience. I bring a level of organization, attention to detail, and professionalism that comes from doing this at a high level for many years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got started bartending at 18 at the Ground Round in Pittsburgh and quickly realized I loved the fast-paced environment and working with people. What started as a job turned into a career as I continued working in hospitality and eventually moved to New York City. Over time, I shifted into private events and built Big Star Hospitality to offer a more polished, reliable experience for clients. It grew naturally through word of mouth and repeat business, and it’s been my full-time focus for the past 10 years.

What types of customers have you worked with?
We’ve worked with a wide range of clients—from private individuals hosting birthdays, weddings, graduation parties, baby showers, bar and bat mitzvahs, celebrations of life, and retirement parties to corporate clients hosting happy hours, brand events, and company parties. I’ve also created custom cocktails for Creed Fragrance, including a signature drink inspired by their fragrance Aventus for Men.

On the corporate side, we’ve worked with companies like The Farmer’s Dog, Slate Magazine, Atlassian, Worth Media, Block, Inc., and Whirlpool Corporation, among others.

Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a large-scale event, we bring the same level of professionalism, organization, and attention to detail to make sure everything runs smoothly and guests have a great experience.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My biggest advice is to hire someone who is experienced, responsive, and organized—not just someone who can make drinks. A great bartender or event staff should know how to manage flow, handle pressure, and keep things running smoothly without needing direction.

Make sure they’re clear about what’s included, communicate well leading up to the event, and have a plan in place—not just show up and figure it out. You want someone who’s thinking ahead so you don’t have to.

Also, look at reviews and past clients. Consistency and reliability matter just as much as personality.

At the end of the day, the right team will make your event feel effortless—that’s what you’re really paying for.
