What to expect

Expect a big voice, expressive harmonica, and Mississippi blues with plenty of Southern soul.

Big Main brings audiences into the music through powerful vocals, relatable storytelling, humor, and songs about real life. The show moves from foot-stomping grooves to slow-burning blues, giving listeners room to dance, laugh, reflect, and feel every word.

Original songs are central to the experience, delivered with the warmth and grit of a performer who means what he sings. With Big Main leading on vocals and harmonica, audiences get personality, musical conversation, and a reason to stay engaged from the opening song through the final note.

For festivals, listening rooms, community celebrations, and private events, performance length, band configuration, and sound requirements are coordinated in advance. The goal is simple: give your guests a memorable show and give you clear communication throughout the booking process.

About

G. Tremain Merrell, known as Big Main, is a Mississippi-born blues vocalist, songwriter, and harmonica player whose work honors and advances the state’s storied musical heritage. Rooted in the Gulf Coast’s cultural landscape, his performances combine soulful vocals, authentic storytelling, and expressive harmonica playing to capture the raw spirit of traditional blues. Influenced by legends like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, Big Main channels the emotional depth and resilience that define the genre. His music connects audiences to the roots of American sound while presenting the blues as a living, evolving art form that continues to inspire and unite across generations.

Additional booking notes

Full-band performances require space for five performers: Big Main on vocals and harmonica, plus guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums.

Technical needs include:

Influences and inspiration

Big Main draws inspiration from the raw vocal power of Wilson Pickett, the heartfelt delivery of Percy Sledge, the rhythmic energy and stage presence of James Brown, and the deeply emotional performances of Charles Bradley.

His blues influences include Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Freddie King, and Otis Rush. Bobby “Blue” Bland and Donny Hathaway influence his soulful phrasing and storytelling, while John P. Kee, Fred Hammond, and Canton Jones speak to his gospel roots.

These influences come together in Big Main’s own blend of Mississippi blues and Southern soul—powerful vocals, expressive harmonica, foot-stomping grooves, and songs that find meaning, humor, and feeling in everyday life.
