My insatiable curiosity, coupled with my classical training, has led me to learn a wide range of repertoire from the music of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy to songs by Lebanese singer Fairouz, Mexican songwriter Agustin Lara, Yiddish music and many jazz, blues and Latin standards. As an improvising musician, I also offer unique extemporaneous meditations reminiscent of Bach fantasias, Chopin nocturnes, or Debussy preludes.
I would be happy to create a program specially suited to the needs of your community or event, be that in terms of repertoire choice, or by creating a certain mood: whether soothing, joyful, or spiritual.

Basil Vandervort-Charbonneau has a Master's degree in Performance from the University of Montreal. As a solo pianist he has won several prizes at national competitions such as Saurel, Québec and the Canadian music competition. In 2019, duo Nox, founded with soprano Agnès Ménard, participated in the Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition in Paris. Since graduating Basil has endeavoured to integrate composition and improvisation into his practice. Several of his works have been played by pianist Philippe Prud’homme, singer Simon Beaudry, and actors Jacques Godin and Béatrice Picard. His improvisations have led him to perform in Sweden and he has benefited from a Quebec government grant to release a series of educational videos on classical improvisation in the style of Chopin.
