November 19, 2025Excellent!
Reliable, professional, talented- we couldn't have been happier with Bagpipes for all occasions. We had piping outside the church as people arrived for our daughters wedding and also as the doors opened and they departed. It truly elevated the experience. Rick was professional, well dressed and pretty straightforward with the details. Honestly- of all the $$ we spent for this wedding, I have some regrets but hiring Rick was entirely worth it.

July 6, 2025Celebration of Life for Bryce James
Richard Powell, bagpiper went above and beyond to make sure our celebration of life for our son was as special as it was! We are so grateful that Richard was able to fit us into his schedule for a weekend. The way he skillfully played the bagpipes at my son's celebration of life was beautiful and touching. He has such a kind heart. We had a military flyover referred as missing man and the bagpipes were so fitting. Richard knew just what to play and when to play it. He was very flexible with our requests with music. It was so lovely! I would highly recommend him!!!!!

I will show to your event early (approximately 1 hour to 45 minutes early) in order to warm up and tune my pipes in order to ensure the bagpipe sound produced is optimal for your event.
I will wear full highland attire and be ready to play at the start of your event.
Prior to the event we will have discussions on the duration of each set or tunes as well as tunes to be played (and not played).
Each set of tunes (roughly 15-20 minutes) will be followed by a brief break.
About
My bagpipe journey began in the Capital District of NY in 1998. After years of lessons I was allowed to join the Schenectady Pipe Band’s performance and competition bands. In 2003, Schenectady Pipe Band was the North American Pipe Band Champion Supreme. In 2004 I commissioned in the US Army as a Field Artillery Officer where my pipes traveled throughout Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Ft. Drum, New York, Europe, and select regions of the Middle East. Returning to NY in 2010, I have returned to the Schenectady Pipe Band as a primary plying member and select Pipe Major for many events.
