April 30, 20156th birthday party
Scattered Grass was prompt with their responses while setting up the gig, were on time, professional, and really made my mother's 60th birthday celebration a success. Guests kept asking where I had found such a great bluegrass band! Their sound was clean and kept us dancing until they had to (unfortunately) pack up. I would highly recommend Scattered Grass to anyone and wouldn't hesitate to hire them for a future celebration.

April 25, 2015"Scattered Grass"-Lively, Down-home, Traditional Bluegrass
Step back in time to hear the very best rendition of Traditional Bluegrass music and Contemporary Traditional Bluegrass music. You will hear Traditional Bluegrass classic songs, and Traditional Bluegrass classic instrumental tunes like no other local Bluegrass band.
“Scattered Grass” plays Traditional and Contemporary Bluegrass in a “true” form, which is actually quite a rare treat around here in the Desert Southwest.
Although serious about providing authentic Bluegrass music, Scattered Grass is quite lively. The band members allow the happy and upbeat spirit of their tunes to shine through during and between songs, with humor and light hearted “Down-home” personal interaction with the audience. This personal side of the band is truly genuine and precious to their audience.
Although certainly faithful to any particular original version of any particular song, this band collectively has the musical skill and ability to allow their own musicality and performance styles to show through and become the drive of the music. This stems from summation of the many dozens of years of Bluegrass music study, recording, and stage performance experience between the band members.
Many different multitalented musical abilities are shared between all of the members of this highly exceptionally experienced Bluegrass band.
You will recognize distinct picking styles of Bluegrass banjo masters, Crowe, Scruggs, and Osborne, and hear these masters of the craft once again, picked thought Banjo player, Mark Krider with accuracy, and from the heart. He also plays guitar in the styles of Lester Flatt, or Doc Watson.
The music of Bluegrass fiddle masters, Kenny Baker or Paul Warren among others, can be heard through the bow and strings of the fiddle player, Bob Frankot with his skilled, confident, and fluid Classic Bluegrass fiddle style.
Sue Krider provides accurate, full, focused, well-timed Upright bass. Billy Parker gives you well-styled Lead guitar and Mandolin and strong vocals. Larry Conley delivers powerful Lead vocals, Rhythm guitar, and Lead guitar. A multi-talented musician known throughout Arizona, Alvin Blaine plays several instruments - Dobro, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar, Banjo, and fine Vocals.
Yes they live in Tucson, but what sets this Bluegrass band apart from other local Bluegrass bands is that they bring real Bluegrass to Tucson from the places where they grew up with it. It is part of their origins. Traditional Bluegrass music has always been integral to their lives.
Booking this band will provide your audience with an opportunity to have a rare treat – to be the audience to the very best Bluegrass band Tucson has, and to see that no other Bluegrass band in Tucson picks Traditional and Contemporary Traditional Bluegrass the way that Scattered Grass does.

What to expect
Tucson-based Azure performs vintage jazz and upbeat Americana music featuring violin, piano/guitar, and acoustic bass. We can add sax, trumpet, or clarinet on request. Our music is always family-friendly and, while sophisticated, is never pretentious. We can shape our sets from blazing-hot swing to tender ballads to laid-back ambient music and include fun and engaging singalongs, as appropriate for your event.
Our bandmembers are all regulars at respected venues like Hotel Congress and Gaslight Music Hall. Acoustic violin brings a unique charm to vintage jazz, not as brash as a horn section, but vibrant with a range of expression from swinging to soulful to tender. We have wartime stories and heartfelt patriotic music to share and love having the opportunity to honor veterans and first-responders.
Example Repertoire
We play vintage jazz ranging from "When the Saints Go Marching In" (circa 1900) through the swing era to early bebop (like "Ornithology"). We do an intensely swinging rendition of Duke Ellington's "Take the A Train" as well as tender instrumental renditions of the beloved British wartime ballad "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" and Hoagy Charmichael's "Star Dust". For those who enjoy Bossa Nova, we do "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Wave". When singalongs are appropriate for the occasion, we love for audiences to join in on "God Bless America", "When You're Smiling", "Bye Bye Blackbird", "When the Saints Go Marching In", “Battler Hymn of the Republic”, or "My Old Kentucky Home". Other favorites to select from include "Pennies from Heaven", "The Sunny Side of the Street", "Saint Louis Blues", "Dinah", "Blue Moon", "Night and Day", "I Can't Give You Anything but Love", "Ain't Misbehavin", and "Summertime". As appropriate for the occasion we can include specialty numbers like Hava Nagila and Shalom Aleichem, and Folk/Gospel songs like “Keep on the Sunny Side” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”, and "I'll Fly Away".
