This is a presentation about the history of entertainment at the White House. My experiences as a White House butler have afforded me with a unique opportunity to give you a backstairs look at White House functions and how they have changed over the years. I relate stories from my own personal experiences and those that I heard from people who have worked in the White House residence since Franklin Roosevelt was president! (This includes Eugene Allen, whose life story is depicted in the new movie "The Butler", starring Forrest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey).

My program is done in four parts. I relate my own personal experiences as a White House butler ((phone number hidden)8); I give an overview of White House entertaining in general, focusing on State Dinners; I relate stories heard from other butlers going back to the Franklin Roosevelt administration; I end with a Q & A.

He'll give you the inside details about all the preparations involved in White House entertaining and how White House events have changed over the years.
Not only will he relate his firsthand experiences with history, but he'll pass on the stories he heard from those who have been taking care of our First Families ever since the Franklin Roosevelt administration!
Alan will also display many of the White House artifacts (menus, programs, Christmas cards, personal photos, etc.) that he has collected over the years. This is a presentation that you won't want to miss!
