Anna Gallo, Harpist, Pianist, & Vocalist

To make sure that everything goes smoothly for my client, I always arrive 1-2 hours early to set up and tune. I am self-sufficient, meaning I bring my own bench, music stand, kit, and everything else I might need. The only thing for which I rely on others is an occasional opened door, but I can prop those with my bench if need be. :)

Please be aware that I CANNOT play in bad weather: extreme winds, any amount of rain (though I can deal with the *threat* of rain), or extreme heat. The harp in unable to handle it: it will go out of tune and/or break strings, and this valuable of a wooden instrument cannot be exposed to water, as it may permanently damage the soundboard. Under a tent/covering is FINE, though!

Since I could reach the piano keyboard, I have been able to “play by ear,” but my parents ensured that I began my musical studies when I was 3 years old. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Music, Majoring in Harp Performance, from Converse College’s Petrie School of Music. I studied piano for 14 years, harp for 9 years, and voice for 3 years. I have been teaching all three instruments for 8 years, sing in 2 choral groups, and have been a featured soloist in many productions, both onstage and in the orchestra pit. I can read music fine, but rely heavily on my ear to ensure that the pieces are played in the correct styles.

I typically need very little. My harp is an older instrument, with a warm, broad sound that carries a very long way; microphones are usually unnecessary (if required, I need 2: one for treble and one for bass. I do NOT carry sound equipment). No lighting or staging is required, but I carry my own "stuff" (aka, bench, music stand, tuning equipment, etc.).
