I deliver a soulful blend of blues, soul, folk, and roots-inspired music centered around expressive vocals, lap steel guitar, and groove-driven arrangements. My performances can range from relaxed background music for cocktail hours, dinners, and private events to more engaging, high-energy sets designed for listening rooms, festivals, and live venues.
Using live looping, percussion, and backing elements, I create a full sound as a solo performer while still keeping the feel organic and personal. My sets include a mix of original music and select covers inspired by artists like Bill Withers, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Ben Harper. I aim to create an experience that fits the atmosphere of the event, whether that means laid-back background music or a more engaging performance that draws in the crowd.
Born near Chicago, raised on the border in McAllen, and now based just outside Austin, soul singer-songwriter Aaron Stephens is a triple threat: a warm, rich voice reminiscent of Bill Withers and Al Green, blues-infused slide guitar inspired by Derek Trucks, and thoughtful, imaginative songwriting that blends soul, blues, roots, pop, and funk. Stephens has built a reputation in the Texas music scene with standout performances at Antone’s and the Continental Club, appearances at ACL Fest, and opening slots for artists like Leon Bridges and Marcus King. His full-band live show radiates groove, vulnerability, and musicianship, while his lap steel guitar adds a fresh soulful edge in the spirit of Ben Harper and Robert Randolph. With an ability to move effortlessly between introspective ballads and uplifting, high-energy jams, Aaron Stephens delivers a show that feels timeless yet distinctly his own; a soul-driven experience that resonates with audiences across genres.
I provide my own professional sound system suitable for most small to medium-sized venues and events. My setup is compact, clean, and designed to work well for both background music environments and attentive listening settings.
For performances, I typically require:
* Access to standard power outlets near the performance area
* A covered or indoor performance space when possible
* Adequate lighting for evening performances
* A chair or stool if available
My solo setup includes vocals, lap steel and guitar, live looping, percussion elements, and backing tracks where appropriate. Setup and breakdown are simple and typically require about 30–45 minutes for setup and 20–30 minutes for breakdown.
For larger venues or events with existing production, I’m happy to coordinate directly with in-house sound engineers and staff to ensure everything runs smoothly.
