December 17, 2024We had a spur-of-the-moment idea to surprise my father-in-law on his 95th birthday. In a little less than 48 hours from the time we began searching for a Southern Gospel quartet, 4 The Light was at our house and performing many of my father-on-law's cherished favorites. Michael, Don, Darvin and Tim couldn't have been more delightful house guests, and they sounded simply wonderful. I'm still amazed at how lucky we were that they were able to commit to our event on such short notice and had the songs we requested in their repertoire, ready to perform. This was a celebration our family will remember, and we wish to thank 4 The Light Gospel Quartet for truly being the icing on the cake on that very special day.

We are a Southern Gospel group from East Indianapolis, IN singing old time hymns mixed with classic and modern Southern Gospel favorites. We have an uplifting message and we share a little historical background and some of the short stories behind the writing of these hymns. For over twenty years, we continue to share the Gospel in song. We have fun when we sing and that joy is contagious, and before you know it, you too will be tapping your feet, bobbing your head, clapping you hands, and lifting up the Lord singing songs that many of us have grown up to know. We can bring our own sound system to include an indoor concert set up and even additional speakers and amps for a (link hidden)dium sized outdoor or festival type setting. We are a high-energy 4 part harmony gospel quartet and we would love to come to your next event, large or small. Formed in 2002, 4 The Light Quartet sings well known sing along traditional hymns and Southern Gospel classics with the goal of encouraging audience and congregation members in sing along too. The group started off as the Mt Comfort Men's Quartet at Mt Comfort United Methodist Church in Greenfield, IN and since 2014 have released four CD releases of 'Let The Glory Roll', followed by 'Victory' and an all hymns CD release titled 'Amazing Grace - Songs of Faith' and the current 2025 release of 'Heaven Bound'. The quartet is blessed with two songwriters, tenor Michael Hoyt has produced four solo albums and one Christmas album and 4 The Light Quartet's baritone Don Paff has released one, making 10 albums total through the years.
4TL is generally a regional group based out on the east Indianapolis area, but the group has performed in 6 states surrounding Indiana and their resume has included performances at the Subaru and WGU Main Street stages at the Indiana State Fair, at the Sagamore Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center, annually at the Indiana State Gospel Music Convention Fan Fest in Columbus to multiple appearances at the Johnson County Fair, 11 years straight headlining Sunday afternoons sings at the Riley Days Festival in Greenfield, four repeat performance at Gospel Days on the Heritage Days Stage at the Elkhart County Fair, Hancock County 4-H Fair, Boone County Fair, Gallatin County Fair (KY), multiple appearances at the Marion County and Johnson County Fairs, the Bargersville Harvest Moon Festival, the Burlington Fall Festival, the Roann Covered Bridge Festival, New Palestine Fall Festival, Lutherwood Praise Festival, Myers Dinner Theatre, The Gospel Music Barn in Hudsonville, MI, multiple years at the North Salem Old Fashion Days Festival, Fountain City Lions Club Festival, Britton Falls Gospel Jubilee, Daughters of American Revolution Annual convention, Daybreak at Cedar Lake Ministries with Moody Radio host Mike Kellogg, 49 Alive Gospel sing in Wilshire, Ohio, WHMB TV Christmas special, JoyFM radio Christmas special, Carmel Christkindmrkt, multiple years at the Indiana Christmas Gift and Hobby Show, Cornerstone Festival of Lights Christmas Special, Christmas in July concerts, New Palestine Fall Faith Fest, multiple Homecoming and tent revival celebrations, multiple appearances as course entertainment at the One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon, to the opening ceremonies at the Carmel Marathon as well as over a hundred churches for special services, homecoming and anniversary celebrations and repeat venues locations throughout Indiana.

The quartet travels with a state of the art sound system and recently added lights, and able to travel up to 200 miles from New Palestine, IN. A 4 The Light concert/performance brings laughter, foot-stomping Southern Gospel singing, heartfelt stories, traditional four-part harmony hymns, and cheer to congregations and audiences alike. 4 The Light Quartet Tenor Michael Hoyt has a background in live theatre (BA - Jordan College of Fine Arts at Butler University), stage lighting, video production, professional sound production and has coordinated and has previously worked as a stagehand in live concert productions and events at the Conseco Fieldhouse (currently Bankers Life), Black River Coliseum, Southeast Missouri Show Me Center, Paramount Theatre, Reardon Auditorium, Clowes Memorial Hall, Marriott Convention Center, Indiana Convention Center, Murat Theatre, Indiana State Fair, Boone County Fair, The Eagle Center, multiple schools, White River State Park and over 70 different church venues. But, being a Southern Gospel group, and our small put powerful setup is generally sufficient for where we sing. Our point is, we have three systems, small, medium and large, and even have lights (night tent revivals) when there is a need. We do our best to keep the stage clean, with most everything (Mics/monitors) wireless.

4 The Light Quartet also sings multiple Christmas songs to include singing a full concert of all Christmas, or combining half gospel and half Christmas as the season gets near. Some of the classic Christmas covers 4 The Light Quartet sings include May Did You Know, What Child is This, O Holy Night, the Big Crosby/David Bowie classic of Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy, Oh Holy Night, The First Noel, to a very entertaining song about Fruitcakes, and who can't forget Darvin Fenter's (4 The Light Quartet lead) release of the holiday song Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.
One of the biggest influences that continue to keep us going are those that come to our programs and concerts. We like to sing songs that are easily recognized, that seem to almost instantly brings smiles to audience faces. Even though we started wanting to be like the Statler Brothers, we realized that will all the wonderful wonderfully written hymns, singing them and the joy they bring when singing about Jesus, has become our influence. We love it when people sing along with us, knowing that we are all sharing in song, in Christ together. We are ambassadors for Christ, to lift up Jesus, and bring back the songs and memories of singing these songs through the generations about how much God loves us. We are influenced by the writers! With so many hymns by Crosby, Kirkpatrick, Cushing, Bliss, Wesley, Lowery, Derricks, Brumley and so many others... we study them, we sing the songs, we learn the history, and the stories, and then we arrange them in our style by adding bass, drums, piano, strings and harmony so that our tracks, recordings, and live performance become original to to us all while keeping the integrity of the way the songs were written. We love singing the old Hymns and bringing them to new life in 4-Part Harmony and with different lead arrangements. In a live performance, we add modern Southern Gospel classics (Even though we joke that if it is not at least 50 years old, we won't sing it) but we do sing some modern Southern Gospel songs from groups like Gold City, Gaither Vocal Band, Cathedrals, Elvis Presley and others from the modern bass heavy Josh Turner Christian version of Long Black Train to a high tenor challenge in songs like My Lord and I, and Oh What a Time! In our Christmas specials we sing songs like Mary Did You Know, What Child is This, We Three Kings to the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version of Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth, to a funny song about Fruitcakes, and if you will allow, the song Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer, which the Darvin Fenter version has surpassed most every song we have published. It is that good, and we sing it in good fun, but we know, that the reason for the season is the celebration of the birth of Christ. For over a decade, we continue to encourage, lift up Jesus, sing and study the Bible together. The hymns are more than just words on paper, sang in a unison on Sunday mornings. They are alive, singing in our hearts and we want to share that with others.
