What to expect
When Ashley is hired for an event, guests can watch a custom chalk artwork take shape from the initial layout to the finished piece. The live creative process provides an engaging attraction, encourages conversation, and creates memorable photo opportunities throughout the event.
Before the event, Ashley works with the client to understand the theme, organization, message, available space, and desired design. Artwork may incorporate event themes, logos, local landmarks, seasonal elements, or other approved concepts.
On-site, Ashley brings the materials needed to create the artwork and works professionally within the designated event area. Depending on the size and complexity of the design, the artwork may be completed during the event or created over a longer scheduled period.
Clients receive a unique, customized art experience designed specifically for their event—not a generic performance. Live chalk art is well suited for festivals, corporate events, school programs, fundraisers, grand openings, downtown celebrations, and community gatherings.
Outdoor chalk artwork is temporary and may naturally fade or wash away, but the experience, photographs, and audience engagement continue long after the event.
About
Ashley Wright, known professionally as The Wright Artist, is the artist behind 417 Chalk Art. She creates custom chalk art, street paintings, murals, window art, and live event artwork for festivals, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
Ashley began working in chalk art in 2015 while living in North Texas, where she became involved in the Dallas–Fort Worth chalk art community and participated in festivals and public art events throughout the region. That experience helped her develop the ability to create detailed, large-scale artwork in active event environments while engaging with guests throughout the process.
Now based near Joplin, Missouri, Ashley brings her live-art experience to events across Southwest Missouri and the surrounding 4-States region. She works with clients to create artwork inspired by their theme, organization, or message, giving guests a memorable visual experience and the opportunity to watch the artwork come to life.
Additional booking notes
Technical requirements vary depending on the size, location, and type of artwork requested. In general, Ashley requires:
• A clean, dry, and reasonably smooth concrete or asphalt surface suitable for chalk artwork
• Adequate working space around the designated art area
• Access to the site before the event for setup, surface review, and layout
• A nearby parking or unloading area for art materials
• Protection from vehicle traffic and heavy foot traffic while the artwork is being created
• Barriers, cones, or event staff support when needed to keep the work area clear
• Adequate lighting for evening or indoor events
• Access to shade or a canopy for extended outdoor work when possible
• Access to water and restroom facilities during longer events
Outdoor chalk art is weather-dependent. Rain, wet pavement, extreme heat, or high winds may require schedule changes, additional protection, or an alternate plan. The client should identify an indoor backup location when feasible.
No stage, sound system, microphone, or special electrical service is normally required. If the project includes window painting, murals, elevated surfaces, or specialty materials, additional access, equipment, surface preparation, or ventilation requirements may apply.
Final technical needs, setup time, and estimated completion time will be confirmed with the client before the event.

Influences and inspiration
Ashley’s artistic influences come from a mix of personal experience, public art, and artists who use bold imagery to tell meaningful stories. She is especially inspired by Frida Kahlo, whose work combined vibrant color, symbolism, identity, and deeply personal experiences.
Ashley is also influenced by the chalk and street-painting artists she encountered through festivals in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Watching large-scale artwork develop in public spaces shaped her appreciation for art that is temporary, accessible, and experienced as part of a community.
Her earliest chalk work was also influenced by the memory of her mother, beginning with a swan created in tribute to her. That experience continues to inform her interest in artwork that is visually engaging while still carrying emotion, meaning, or a personal connection.
