The Amateurs are a co-ed a cappella group founded in 1991. We are comprised of about 16 singers, the majority of which are not music majors. However, our love of singing has allowed us to compete in ICCA semifinals last year, release nine studio albums and work with famous musicians like Ben Folds and Sara Bareilles. Our motto comes from our name, "do it because you love it." None of us are professional, but our love of music and singing together brings passion to every gig we perform.
What a great performance! The Washington Amateurs did an awesome job of entertaining our FCCLA members!
Price Range: $0-$3000
Gig Length: 10 - 60 minutes
Languages: Chinese, English
We typically perform half-hour sets of around 5-6 songs of your choosing! Due to the time consuming nature of arranging songs and our busy student lifestyle, we can only perform songs from our set list. We can dress in any attire from fancy to casual, and are always professional, despite our name.
The Amateurs hail from Washington University in St. Louis and have been sharing their love of music with audiences since 1991. Coming off of our ICCA Semifinals performance, we’re focusing this year on honing our blend and producing fantastic arrangements. We’ve received major national awards, toured in cities across the country, and have appeared on international a cappella compilations like Voices Only and Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella. We have a musical drive comparable to some of the best groups in the country, but we never lose sight of our motto that makes us tick - do it because you love it. We’re truly an “AmFam”, a group of friends, bound by our love of music.
We can perform without microphones, but if up to four are available we ideally will use a microphone for the solo, one for our bass voice, one for our vocal percussionist, and one for the background singers.
