Canadian-born Tess Alexander graduated in music at the Cornish Institute of Allied Arts in Seattle, Washington, has worked and resided in Europe, mostly Germany and is currently based in Montreal filling in for various pianists and keyboardists. Doing less singing since her arrival (that just sort of happened AND I want to buy a new microphone)she has accompanied Sharda Bayman, leading backup vocalist for Nikki Yanofsky and studio session singer for Phil Ramone as well as Urban, R&B upcoming Canadian singing sensation Shahara Sinclair. ``I loved working with Shahara Sinclair, her vibe and her band members are so cool and dedicated``, says Tess Alexander. She also performed with Staff Educator at Concordia University as well as House of Jazz regular week-end drummer Wali Muhammed who brought her to the Oscar Peterson Hall for the first rehearsal and meet and greet the band.
Tess Alexander`s musicianship is immediately evident the moment she hits the stage. With the right bass drums and guitar backup the audience is in for a treat, you wonder why more people don`t know about her. Tess Alexander is a seasoned performer with a nice jazz and funk feel, a beautiful touch on the piano, and a unique interpretive sense for jazz and the popular standards. She reads music but for interpretive pieces when accompanying an Mp3 file will do for learning other singer`s repertoire. Also a big fan of instrumental music, having studied big band and choir in highschool, she has a distinctive riff side to her playing and has fun with it.
