I have been playing and singing for a long time, and I was fortunate to grow up with my parents appreciating music from their generation, i.e. the fifties, sixties and seventies. With constant great musical influences like those artists from that era, how could I not tap into their resources and learn how to play and sing? So I did. Then I came into my own and appreciated music from my own generation and now the music from this new generation. I gained a healthy respect for more kinds of music and opened my mind to everything.
Now I play all the time in clubs, bars, and restaurants just so I can spread my love and passion for music to everyone in those places. What I play and sing are songs that may have fallen by the wayside, swallowed into the abyss of corporate America, meaning that if it's not popular anymore, no one hears it. Well I dug them up and now I play them, and it reminds people of the music they once enjoyed but forgot about or longed to hear. In fact, there's many who will come up to me and say "there was this song I heard a long time ago that I loved, and now it's been so long I can't remember it...". So what do I do? I go and dig them up, which allows me to offer not only a more personable and approachable version of myself; it allows me to provide a unique and altogether exciting musical event for everyone in the room.
Of course I play many of the popular songs as well, as well as my own originals, but I knew right from the get that I had to do something different. My customers and anyone who hears me enjoy that I make myself accessible, and I also make myself available to criticism and requests from both client and staff from any venue I play. Often, I am asked to book locations and am asked to be a "house act", as I tend to put on a good show that is, as I stated, unique, accessible, and generally pleasurable and non-offensive. I pride myself on my professionalism.
When hired to perform a gig, I have a master song list that I can provide to the business owner and also to the customers for their perusal. In this way, the customers and business owners can make requests of me and I am less apt to disappoint them by having to say things like "I'm sorry, I don't know that song...", people are able to make requests based on the extensive song list they have before them. I have also learned by doing this that customers stay in their seat longer not only because of the quality of music and my talent, but because I have offered them a way to become altogether involved in the music they get to hear.
I am professional, and do not take breaks during my sets often, I do not exploit the musician's expectation to eat and drink for free at the owner's expense (save for ginger ale when I'm playing...don't ask), and I do not plug myself. I show up and make everyone feel as though they are special, which is not a common trait among today's musicians. I encourage the audience to sing along, to dance if they feel the want to do so, and I encourage them to feel how they felt the first time they heard the songs I play.
I am available upon request both on my telephone and via e-mail, and will always get back to you promptly within 24 hours.
Stephen Pozzato: Main act/ guitars/vocals
I am influenced by many artists and styles which include, but are not limited to: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, America, Motor City Five, Johnny Cash, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Bach, Joan Baez, Alice In Chains, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, The Turtles, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Mozart, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi, the list goes ever on, including hundreds of artists along a broad spectrum of the musical world.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 30 - 560 minutes
I require a glass of cold Ginger Ale
I require a stool upon which I can sit and play
I require enough space for me, my guitar, a stool and a music stand
I generally show up with just myself and a guitar to smaller gigs, as I have an ability to project very well over medium sized areas, but for some packed houses or larger gigs, I provide a small PA system to those places that do not have them. I prefer to use house PA systems where available, and is one of the questions I will ask when requested for a show.
My set list includes hundreds of songs and a complete list is available upon request, but includes many of the artists from the influences section here and many, many more. A few examples of popular songs I perform would be Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones, Wicked Game by Chris Isaak, Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and All Along The Watchtower by Bob Dylan.
