* Its the Best Hour You'll Ever Spend in Therapy, Without a Huge Co-Pay!" - Chicago Tribune
The Provider Alliance of Wayne County is a group of like minded non-profits in Wayne County, MIchigan that provide supports and services to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Each year we sponsor an event for all of the Caregivers that support the Individuals with Disabilities. This year we had 300 Caregivers come out to a banquet to have a few hours of R&R and to be pampered. We provided lunch, raffle prizes and entertainment.
Which brings me to Squishy Man. Squishy and I spoke several times before the event so that he could understand his audience, their responsibilities and their need for a few moments to laugh and let all of the stress of their daily jobs go. Coming from a background in Therapy and the Mental Health System he understood his audience very quickly.
Squishy was prompt and eager to get started on the day of the event. Without a doubt he was the MOST entertaining speaker we have had in years. His comedy was bend over funny and relevant to the Caregivers that he was engaging. I had an overwhelming positive response from Caregivers telling me it was the very best part of their week. Many even went on to google Squishy to see if they could catch him again somewhere.
100% recommend Squishy Man to anyone looking to forget their woes and laugh their pants off.
Response from Squishy Man:
Kelly,
I am totally humbled by your kind words.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to entertain the caregivers at your PAWC event.
It was wonderful to see a room full of caregivers that enjoyed laughing so much. I can tell they definitely received a big "Dose of Laughter Therapy."
Squishy Man did an excellent job entertaining everyone at our conference! (IT professionals, pharmacists, and vendors). He injected content into his act that is relevant to the pharmacy industry, and was able to engage the entire audience using healthcare topics that everyone could relate to. We had a great time!
When planning our next conference we would definitely consider hiring Squishy Man again. He was very easy to work with, funny, entertaining to watch and laugh with.
Thanks Squishy!
Response from Squishy Man:
You are so welcome. It was my honor!! You were one of the most professional agencies that I have had the pleasure to work with. You treated me well. You put me up in a wonderful hotel. You made sure all of my requirements were meet. Last but not least.... your audience was wonderful. I just wish all of my performances went this smoothly. Chuck, Heath, Sally and the rest of Speed Script... I wish you the utmost success in the future. Thanks again for letting me bring a "Dose of Laughter Therapy" to your customers.
The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Delaware and Morrow Counties recently invited "Squishy Man" to perform at our organization's annual reception and performance in recognition of "Mental Health Awareness Week." We first heard Squishy at NAMI Ohio's spring 2014 conference and enjoyed his comedy performance there so much that we hired him for our October 9th event.
NAMI of Delaware & Morrow Counties is an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and ensure dignity and respect for persons with serious mental illness and offer support to their families and close friend. We thought Squishy Man would be a good fit for our event. He shared the trials and tribulations of his mental illness and other life experiences in a light-hearted and humorous way. Our audience was comprised of two groups of people: college students and community members of all ages, for whom he adeptly crafted his comedy to reach that age-range span of audience.
Squishy Man has a list of impressive credentials and certainly measures up to his reputation as a licensed psychotherapist, inspirational & motivational speaker and culture diversity trainer. He is a "universal- and fun- voice of recovery." We would certainly recommend him in whatever capacity you hire him for.
My name is Peg Morrison, and I am the director of programs at National Alliance on Mental Illness of Ohio. It is my pleasure to write this letter of reference for Kevin "Squishy Man" Barber.
Recently we organized a retreat for all of our affiliates throughout the state. The event is the one time each year when NAMI employees and volunteers get together to discuss challenges, share ideas, and rekindle their spirits. I wanted people to feel energized, empathized with, and to come away feeling validated.
This was my first time organizing content for an annual conference, and there was a great deal of pressure. However, Squishy captivated the audience within seconds. People were rolling with laughter and seemed to be immediately rejuvenated.
We absolutely loved Squishy’s keynote speech. He spoke to our group in a meaningful and personal, yet professional way. It worked on all levels, and I would certainly recommend him to a friend or colleague.
Response from Squishy Man:
It was my pleasure to be able to speak to NAMI OHIO. You made me feel comfortable and treated me very well. Please let all of the staff know how much I appreciated the opportunity to share my story with them.
As the executive director of NAMI Ohio, I have hired plenty of keynote speakers. I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Kevin "Squishy Man" Barber.
Last month we had our annual conference with over 170 people from all over the state of Ohio. Mental illness is a tough topic. Therefore, we wanted to bring in a speaker who could uplift and inspire the audience.
Squishy presented a message that was professional and yet down to earth. I would urge anyone seeking a speaker who motivates, inspires, and entertains to hire Squishy. His presentation was really special. I have attended conferences all over the United States for a number of years. Squishy has been one of the best speakers that I have seen.
Response from Squishy Man:
Terry, thank you so much for the kind words. It meant a lot to me to be able to share my story with N.A.M.I. OHIO. The audience was fantastic and very receptive. I hope to work with N.A.M.I. again in the future.
I have been a professional comedian since 1986, and in all my travels I have never met a more unique performer than Squishy Man. He is wickedly intelligent, but also one of the most gentle giving souls I have ever met. His passion for what he does is unmatched by anyone I have ever seen - and I've seen them all. He is 100% real, and gives his all in each and every performance. If more people in the business were like him, the world would be a better place. It already is since he's here, and I am very proud to call him both a peer and a friend. Long live Squishy! He's not just a comedian, he's on a mission.
Response from Squishy Man:
Wow, Dobie. Thanks so much for the kind review. Especially coming from a 25+ year Veteran of Stand Up Comedy. If it weren't for you. I might not have lasted this long in the business. I wish you all of the success in the world. As always, Keep It Squishy, my friend.
I was in charge of planning the five and ten year anniversary dinner for St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana this year. I knew exactly where I was going to have it, the kind of menu I wanted, and how we would handle certain aspects of the program, but I was struggling with what to do about the entertainment. I knew that I wanted the honorees in attendance to feel appreciated and have a great time. Someone suggested having a comedian, and as I searched the Internet I found "Squishy".
Squishy absolutely made the evening a success! Everyone was talking about his performance the next day, and months later we are still talking and laughing about it.
Squishy was a class act from beginning to end. To prepare for that night he asked about his audience, who would be attending and what our objectives were. I told him we wanted our team members to feel "happy, light-hearted, and appreciated" and he nailed it.
He was amazing at integrating some of the humorous situations
that I shared with him that I knew the audience would appreciate and making them so hilarious!
He also asked a lot about our company's culture and about working in healthcare, what topics would be fun to incorporate and if there were sensitive issues to stay away from. He was able to integrate certain "phrases" and "jargon" into the presentation. (PRN, NPO, LVAT) and touch upon being in the Healthcare Field and the frustrations that are involved; i.e., Adapting to Technology, working with frustrated patients, and working with less. He also a made a point of interacting with several of us in the audience during his show - making it extra special and personal.
Squishy did a great job entertaining and motivating our team and he was very
professional to work with. Everyone had a great time. Several people mentioned to me that they were looking to see where else he was performing so they could go see him! I have had many requests to have him come back for next year's event. I really appreciate the gift that he added to the evening.

Response from Squishy Man:
Lauri, Thank YOU for giving me an opportunity to motive and inspire your staff with my style of "Laughter Therapy." I knew it was a good presentation when the "Hospital President AND the Chaplain" were both laughing. :)
I will definitely email you the next time I perform at Crackers Comedy Club in Indianapolis. Perhaps you can let the staff know. BTW, I am sure I could come up with a few VIP Passes. :)

I am pleased to recommend Kevin Barber, LSCW, LCSW (A.K.A.
Squishy Man) as a "Traveling Therapist, Comedy Counselor'' in a
corporate/business setting. We recently hired Kevin for an annual
research study retention event to provide entertainment and a
motivational/inspirational message to the study participants and
were very happy with the experience and results.
Kevin responded to our request for the speaking engagement
immediately and was very accommodating both in terms of
availability and budget. He took a substantial amount of time
learning about that group that he would be speaking to and adapted
his performance to the crowd appropriately. His performance was
funny, inspiring, uplifting, and relatable.
Overall, we were pleased with the success of the event and would
recommend Kevin as a speaker for future events of this nature.

My name is Jackie Knight owner of Gypsy Comedy Club in St. Augustine, Florida. I have been in the entertainment/comedy business for over 40 years. I have meet such celebrities as Tony Bennett and Jimmy Durante. I have worked with comedy legends like; Tommy Davidson, Ron White, and Robin Williams. I can honestly say that Kevin "Squishy Man" Barber will be one of the greats.
It is a pleasure to work with "Squishy." He is truly a professional on and off the stage. You can tell he takes pleasure is what he does. He has a unique "Storytelling ability." He can en trace the audience to where you can hear a "pin-drop" and then "deliver the humor" and have the audiences cheering and standing on their feet.
If you are contemplating "Hiring" Squishy, you definitely won't be disappointed.

We hired Squishy Man for our employee appreciation day with the purpose of relaxing and laughing together. Squishy was accommodating to perform a "clean" show. The staff had a really, REALLY great time and was talking about it for days after. Squishy was hilarious and many of us had tears of laughter streaming down our faces! Squishy helped make our event really memorable!
Response from Squishy Man:
JaNelle, thank you so much for your feedback. I had a fantastic time entertaining your staff. Keep It Squishy... :D
Squishy Man recently conducted a diversity training for our group of 150 Community Action employees. He is an extraordinary presenter that knows how to capture the attention of an audience with his unique humor and contagious energy.
He combines his personal experiences and relevant research to present information in a creative style that leaves people rolling in their seats with laughter and enlightened at the same time. He delivered a powerful message with a comedic style that will not be forgotten
Response from Squishy Man:
Wow, Angie. Thank you so much for the glowing feedback. I feel it is important to utilize humor while addressing some of the more difficult subjects. I appreciate you allowing me to share my knowledge. Thanks again, for enjoying my UNIQUE STYLE! :D
We hired Squishy for our annual company banquet to entertain and motivate. We were very happy with the results. His performance was right on the money. He did a great job getting to know who we are and adapted his performance accordingly. I had requested funny, motivating and clean; and Squishy came through. He made me look good for hiring him.
Response from Squishy Man:
Thank you Bryan for hiring me. I had a fantastic time interacting and entertaining your employees. I wish Centrol, all the success in the world. :D
Kevin was Astounding, Engaging and Hilarious. We hired Kevin for our Annual Pharmaceutical Convention in January. Our conventions usually average 600 attendees and we typically have the traditional singer, magician, or hypnotist as entertainment. However, this year we decided to go with a Motivational/Inspirational Speaker - Corporate Comedian.
Kevin was like a diamond in the rough. We had looked through GigSalad/GigMaster for hours trying to find a good fit for our convention. However, Kevin had the right amount of experience, credentials, and wit.
Kevin was very professional. He adapted well to our audience. Within seconds, Kevin had the crowd laughing. Kevin uses his "Squishy" persona to hide the therapist hidden inside. He shared many inspirational stories that fit perfectly and invigorated our audience.
We would highly recommend Kevin.
Response from Squishy Man:
Cynthia, I truly appreciate your feedback. I am glad the crowd enjoyed my inspirational/motivational stories. It was definitely easy to connect with your audience. I, also, appreciated all of the questions and answers after my performance. Cynthia, I wish you all of the success in the future. Take Care and Keep It Squishy. :D
Our club has featured comedy for over 20 years and Squishy Man is one of our regularly touring headline comedians. He has always been professional, courteous, on-time, and most importantly: funny. He has a great ability to adapt to an audience, whether club or corporate. Give him a call and have him rescue your next event.
I have hired Squishy Man on two different occasions and both times he performed flawlessly and professionally! Our audiences love when he comes to town and he keeps them laughing and having a great time the entire show. I highly recommend Squishy to anyone and everyone!!

My Grandmother always said, "Laughter is the best Medicine" Therefore, I am the Traveling Therapist, Comedy Counselor... Bringing a "Dose of Laughter Therapy" to the people one audience at a time!
I HAVE (3) STYLES OF PRESENTING... 1) MOTIVATIONAL & INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKING 2) CULTURAL DIVERSITY TRAINING 3) CLEAN CORPORATE COMEDIAN. Regardless of the style, I will personalize the presentation. These are not "cookie cutter" presentations. Each presentation is unique to your specific audience.
1) MOTIVATIONAL & INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER STYLE:
I provide a 30 min or 1 hour presentation about the hurdles I have encountered throughout my life. I discuss the emotional roller-coaster as well as the triumphs. I discuss growing up in a time when it was illegal for my white mother to be married to my black father in 1967. (Loving vs. Virginia).
I share how I constantly battle with Manic Depression (Bipolar Disorder), How I dropped out of school in the 11th grade, went to jail, become an Alcoholic, Meth and Crack Addict.
Then I MIRACULOUSLY changed my life and received my G.E.D. then received my Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Psychology and then, successfully, receiving my Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. I will also discuss the pinnacle of my academic career when I was the keynote speaker at Harvard University. By the time this hour presentation is over.... your audience/staff will have regained a renewed sense of enlightenment. They will understand that we all can be successful. It just takes that first step...!!!!
2) CULTURAL DIVERSITY TRAINER STYLE:
I presently provide a workshop called, "The Changing Faces of America - How Community Agencies Can Respond." This presentation is designed for either a 1 hour or 4 hour presentation. However, I do provide an 8 hour workshop.
This presentation focuses on historical and present day population statistics in your area. How these population changes are effecting our service delivery methods. I will discuss, socioeconomic factors, geographic factors and other variables that can hinder our effectiveness as service providers. I will provide solutions that can give your staff a renewed sense of direction.
3) CLEAN CORPORATE COMEDIAN STYLE:
I provide a 30 min or 1 hour presentation where I discuss everyday topics like; Office Politics, Step Parenting, Living with Diabetes, Changing Careers, Outsourcing, and dealing with the dreaded, "Midlife Crisis." I also talk about the Good Old Days vs. Now; Txting vs Talking, Smartphones vs Old Rotary Phones, Bikes before Helmets, Cars before Seat-belts, chewing vitamins vs. quick dissolve, bar of soap vs. foaming soap and now living on the road as a Professional Comedian on the National Comedy Circuit :)
My performances are mostly PG-13. However, I can tailor a 100% CLEAN (G-Rated) show, if that is what you're needing.
Since I travel 40 weeks a year and basically live out of hotels, I will definitely need a hotel room for the day of the performance. I will also need an adequate sound system.

Most of my crowds are between 25-85 years old. I poke fun at a lot of subjects. At the same time, I understand how to deliver a quality performance that is hilarious without being offensive. I have been given a gift of humor and I enjoy making people laugh their stress away. The following are some of the many topics I discuss. (ALSO) I can personalize the show just for your company...
- Office Politics,
- Step Parenting,
- Living with Diabetes,
- Changing Careers,
- Dealing with the dreaded, "Midlife Crisis."
Good Old Days vs. Growing Up Now
- Txting vs Talking,
- Smartphones vs Old Rotary Phones,
- Bikes before Helmets,
- Cars before Seat-belts,
- Chewing vitamins vs. quick dissolve,
- Bar of soap vs. foaming soap
... and many more topics, that I have acquired over the course of my many years, of living on the road as a Professional Comedian on the National Comedy Circuit :)
My Influences Include but not limited to... Tony Robbins, Cornel West, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Phyllis Diller, Milton Berle, Minnie Pearl, Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, Dick Gregory, and Woody Allen. Those particular comedians were all "Originals" they all have different styles but made a BIG-IMPACT on the World. Each of those comedians were thought provoking. They softened up a serious message with a joke!!! :)
