An example of a typical experience that I offer will usually consist of a set of classical music repertoire as a baseline for the music I perform.
That, depending on the performance/event, would expand to different requests, such as religious music/hymns, traditional ceremonial songs, and if desired, arrangements of different specific song requests. I can incorporate any requests for specific pop tunes that are commonly used in intimate ceremonies or occasions such as "All of Me" by John Legend, "At Last" by Etta James, "A thousand years" by Christina Perri, or even "Can't help falling in love" by Elvis Presley. Some of these pop tunes will need to be arranged specifically for my instrument, and for an added fee of $25, I am more than eager to arrange any and all songs used for the performance. Depending on the request, I may need to decline to perform a specific pop song or two depending on the genre and the time it would take to arrange in comparison to the performance date.
*Overall, however, I am a classical musician and the primary genre of music I will offer for my performances will be classical music by composers such as Haydn, Bach, Vivaldi, etc.
Wisconsin native Mystique Rose Burke began the path of classical cello performance at the
youthful age of nine years old (only slightly behind the fantastic three-year old prodigies she grew
to learn extensively about). In 2009, due to Burke’s positive academics and the kindness of her 2nd
grade elementary school instructor, she was nominated to join the nationally recognized Milwaukee
Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) program. This is where Burke’s classical journey began and
continued all through her adolescents, until she was accepted into the Lawrence Conservatory of
Music to study Cello Performance in 2019.
At the age of eleven, Burke composed her first World Premiere piece of music titled Fantasy
World, performed by Calypso; an incredibly unique Trinidadian steel pan band ensemble of MYSO.
This same year, she was contracted for her first performing artist gig with the United Performing
Arts Fund (UPAF), starting her path as an ambassador for increasing access to fine arts in the
greater Milwaukee area. At the age of fifteen, Burke made her first classical music tour to Argentina
and Uruguay with MYSO, performing pieces such as Libertango and Don’t cry for me Argentina. In the
years 2011, 2016 and 2018, she placed honorable mention in MYSO’s annual concerto competition,
and in her 2018 performance, featured the Saint Saens Cello concerto in A minor. Burke toured again
in 2019 as principle cellist with MYSO to perform across Ireland, performing repertoire like Oh,
Danny Boy, and picking up an awfully cringy Irish accent in tandem. In the same year she won her
first competition for the Civic Music Association Showcase, performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto in
B minor, the rarest piece of our time.
Burke’s time studying at Lawrence University was truly rewarding and provided an
environment for her to learn the difficult skills of perseverance and adaptability, specifically from
the Covid Pandemic that left her continuing her classical music studies online from spring 2020 to
fall of 2021. After graduating with her Bachelor’s of Music in 2023, Burke explored life in Marietta,
Georgia where she was contracted as a private lesson cello instructor with the Music Studio
Atlanta. After six months of exploration, she moved back to Wisconsin in November of 2023.
Burke now works as a gigging cellist, is auditioning for local orchestras, and is studying to become a licensed Music Therapist for hospice and prenatal divisions.
Being a solo cellist the only point I'd recommend you consider is how large your venue is and how far you want my sound to carry. If you think my sound will need to project more, then I'd recommend considering a microphone. However, I don't anticipate that you'll be needing one as my sound can carry.
This will be completely dependent upon the gig and the type of performance/event being requested. However, don't be afraid to reach out and request a time to discuss this more in-depth if you're interested!
Armless chair with four legs
