Experience the softer side of the saxophone with beautiful, classical melodies on your special day! I can provide either my harp and saxophone duet with harpist Kara Welch or for something simple you may decide on solo saxophone only. I can play traditional wedding pieces such as Glück's Dance of the Blessed Spirits, Jeremiah Clark's Trumpet Tune, or Wedding March by Mendelsohn. I can also do Celtic favorites such as Mairi's Wedding song or music from video games such as Zelda's Lullaby.

While there are plentiful jazz saxophonists out there, I am unique in that I am exclusively a classical saxophonist. I love playing pieces that are usually played on violin, flute or clarinet and I try to match the style and quality of those instruments. The pieces I choose for weddings typically come from flute repertoire and sound delightful on the soprano saxophone. The soprano has a sound like a brass oboe, more warm and powerful than a typical oboe.
My duet partner, harpist Kara Welch, is a veteran wedding performer. Her harp is custom designed with a plug in for a speaker system. She performs with a video game orchestra in Baltimore so she is also unique in her choice of pieces. Many couples who are video game lovers enjoy her bespoke arrangements as it makes their wedding even more special. Together we are sure to dazzle guests and the happy couple.
For soprano saxophone only for up to an hour the price is $400 and for the harp and saxophone duet the price is $800. For additional time after the ceremony and any travel of more than 1 hour one way there are additional fees which can be discussed. We perform in Baltimore county, Carroll County, Howard County, Montgomery County, Anne Arundel County, Harford County, and York County in Pennsylvania.
Saxophonist Maureen Walsh
The Washington Post has described Maureen Walsh as bringing “consummate skill and interpretative sensitivity to the Schmitt, capturing every ounce of its dusky innuendos and mystical exoticism” after a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra. Miss Walsh was a prizewinner of the NSO young soloist competition as well as the Harold Randolf Prize and the Baltimore Music Club competition. In June of 2022 she released a video album featuring her own arrangements of opera fantasy suites along with original illustrations.
Miss Walsh has taken the saxophone from Alaska to Thailand with a blend of classical and contemporary programing which often features a visual element to enhance the experience. In addition to solo recitals, she performs with the Capital Wind Symphony and the saxophone ensemble Le Revenant.
Miss Walsh studied at the Peabody Conservatory with Gary Louie and received 3 degrees there including a masters. She also studied with the iconic Donald Sinta at the University of Michigan. Currently, she maintains a private studio in Silver Spring, MD with in person and online students from all over the country. To reach younger saxophone students she is developing the Suzuki method for modified reeded recorders in order to introduce the classical saxophone at an earlier age.
