About

Revolve Aerial Dance is a school and performing company specializing in circus apparatuses like aerial silks, sling, hammock and trapeze.

Julianna Gaillard Hane founded Revolve in 2008 in Salt Lake City. The company has offered aerial classes, performances and residencies throughout the state of Utah as well as in Charlotte, NC. Julianna moved the company back home to Charleston, SC in 2010. She now performs as a soloist for parties, festivals and corporate events.

When preparing for a performance, Julianna will do a site visit and get a feel for your specific event. To get the most out of your aerial experience, suggest themes, costume, apparatus preferences and music ideas. You can also select from one of Julianna's current acts available on YouTube and her website. She performs both graceful, fluid pieces and powerful, exciting acts.

Once the act is chosen and the space assessed, Julianna will determine rigging needs. For indoor performances, a minimum ceiling height of 18' with exposed beams is best. For outdoor spaces, Julianna can either rig from existing sturdy structures or supply her own free-standing aerial rig, which requires a 26'x28' clear flat ground space with 20' vertical free space above. Three to four crew members are needed to set up the free-standing rig, and the process takes around 45 minutes (no staking required).

Once the site visit is complete, Julianna will prepare the aerial act(s) and equipment needed to rig. Rigging usually takes place the day before or the morning of a performance, and timing depends on the type of rig (usually 1-2 hours, although more complex rigs require more time). The event coordinator or building management will provide ladders, lifts, or other access to the rigging site (via catwalk, etc).

A brief rehearsal period following the rigging allows Julianna to make sure everything is set for the performance. Event coordinators can inform Julianna of when to enter a space or when to begin her act. Locating bathrooms or a changing area completes the event set-up.

Influences

Julianna is greatly influenced by the nouveau cirque movement created by Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize. As a dancer first, she focuses on the transitions and the meaning behind the movement. As an athlete, she pushes herself to perform difficult skills that express the joy of being alive.

Typical Gig Duration: 5 - 20 minutes

Julianna is known for her grace and fluidity on aerial fabric and aerial hoop. Her performances are mesmerizing, and she makes aerial movement look so easy! Audience members have commented that they are taken to another place when watching Julianna perform. She is inspiring.

Set/Song/Sequence List:
Due to the demanding nature of aerial work on a performer's body, Julianna can perform 3-4 acts (each set is 5 minutes in length). These acts can be repeated, or there can be a variety of acts as required for your event.

If acts are repeated, these acts can be spaced apart occurring every half hour or every hour. A minimum 15-minute break is required between each act (although two bar/hoop acts can be performed back to back).
