Proof is an all-female a cappella group from Yale University specializing in Jazz and Swing music. The group was founded in 1975, a mere six years after women were admitted to Yale. The odd name comes from a quote in de Cervantes' "Don Quixote": "The proof of the pudding is in the tasting." At the time Proof was formed, there had been a long tradition of male a cappella at Yale, so Proof's founders named the group as a reminder that women could sing just as well as men: all you had to do was give Proof a "taste."
Today, Proof has blossomed into a talented group of seventeen young ladies. Proof's repertoire is based in classic jazz and swing but includes favorites ranging from Motown, Billy Joel, Musical Theater, Patsy Cline, and popular music from today. The girls of Proof tour nationally and internationally and perform for a wide range of audiences.
For Event Planners: Proof's music is particularly suited to audiences who grew up listening to jazz and swing. Proof is available as a seventeen-person group for either full-length concert, to sing a few songs, or to lead Christmas carols, or as a quartet or quintet for background music. Proof's ladies are punctual and professional. New members will join the group in September, so school-year bookings any time after mid-October are ideal.
