About

Paulino was born the son of a drummer, and in his family there are many other musicians. He grew up surrounded by music, and he developed a sincere love, if not addiction to playing music. In his early education he studied classical music in school, he played in various bands, ensembles, and drum lines. Much to his grandmother's dismay, he would walk around as a young man often playing rhythms on nearly everything he could get his hands on.

Paulino has played in Jam bands, Jazz, Country, Latin, Punk, Metal, Folk, Bluegrass, Reggae, Blues, Samba, Funk, as well as a whole host of other types of bands that played many genres of secular music.

While Paulino lived in Florida he developed a sincere love, and interest for Afro-Cuban music, and religion. He began playing religious music in houses of Santeria, as well as Palo there. He would often play Afro-Cuban Rumba, son, as well as, Puerto Rican music like Plena, and Bomba in the streets, and at home at night.

Paulino as a young adult, studied and performed on numerous occasions, with Agustn Daz Cano of the world famous, premier, Afro-Cuban Folklore group Los Muequitos de Matanzas.
He also, performed with members of, Los Muequitos de Matanzas in several shows as well as, with Los Reyes del Tambor in a number of, shows. He sat in with Los Papines in a show in Orlando Florida. He performed as a bongocero in a group called, Vacunao with Luis Carreras, Princessa la Tremenda, Tony Gonzales as well as, many other, fine musicians.

He performed with the famed Tania Len, where he played Bat abernkula, at the gala for the National Black Arts Festival.
Paulino performed several years running, after that at the National Black Art Festival with, a number of different groups.

Paulino, has been, teaching Capoeira with love since 1999.
He studied primarily with, Mestre Caboquinho, and Mestre Lzaro da Bahia, as well as, many other great masters in Florida as well as in Bahia, Brazil.

These Mestres taught him, Capoeira, Maculele, and Samba de Roda.
Paulino took a group of his students from Atlanta to Brazil in 2002 on a trip organized by Mestre Caboquinho.

Paulino did more research and study on his own where he learned many other rhythms, and Brazilian music styles. Paulino also performed with Brazilian Tropicana, as well as, many other groups, playing a role as a dancer as well as musician.

Paulino performed with Count M'butu and Kevin "Kalimba man" Spears. He also performed with the Rev Jeff Mosier where they merged two groups into a group that mixed bluegrass with Afro-Cuban Timba music. Paulino sat in with Col. Bruce Hampton and Pharaoh Gummitt in October of 2011.
Paulino performed with The Moiser Brothers at Springfest in Live Oak FL as well as a number of other shows in the spring of 2012

Paulino is Omo Aa,(initiated to play the sacred Bat drums) he was initiated by Alfredo Calvo and he also plays many other forms of Afro-Cuban religious, as well as secular music.
